Mountaineers take big win over Avery Vikings

The Mitchell Mountaineers closed out their regular season with an explosive 63-14 victory over the Avery Vikings on Friday night.

It was a statement win on Senior Night, setting the tone as the Mountaineers head into the first round of the playoffs this week.

Mitchell wasted no time asserting control, jumping out to a commanding 29-0 lead by the middle of the first quarter. The Mountaineers put together eight consecutive scoring drives and found the end zone six times before the Vikings managed to get on the board. With such a dominant performance, the game moved to a running clock for the entire second half.

Senior running back Hayden Webb led the charge on the ground, rushing for 157 yards and scoring two touchdowns. Quarterback Owen Riddle added balance through the air, throwing for 150 yards — all in the first half — as Mitchell’s offense fired on all cylinders.

The win not only capped off a strong regular season but also served as a memorable sendoff for the team’s seniors.

“We had a great night upfront and built a lot of momentum going into playoffs,” senior Kaj Pittman said. “Our defense played good, and was flying around all night. Thank you for all of the support this regular season.”

The Mountaineers now turn their focus to the playoffs, carrying momentum and confidence after one of their most dominant performances of the season.
