Mountaineer soccer winless as season winds down

LEDGER – Mitchell soccer saw its winless streak continue Oct. 4 and Oct. 5 with back-to-back losses to Providence Academy and Owen.

The Mountaineers (0-16, 0-7) lost 5-0 on the road at Providence Academy in Johnson City, Tennessee, and the next night lost at home to Owen 7-0 after giving up six goals in the first half.

Providence Academy scored three goals in the first half and two in the second. Jose Queriapa had eight saves in the match for Mitchell. He had five saves against Owen (9-4-2, 7-1) and freshman Tyler Brooks had one.

Mitchell played Monday at home against Polk County. Results of that game weren’t available at press time. The Mountaineers play Wednesday at Hendersonville, who is in first place in the Western Highlands Conference. 

Mitchell has games this coming week against Mountain Heritage at home Monday and Oct. 19 at Madison. Mitchell finishes the season Oct. 24 at Avery County.
