Mitchell track team members, teams qualify for state meet
The Mitchell High School track team will be well represented at the state meet May 20 at North Carolina A&T in Greensboro.
Brody Smith earned first-place in the 400-meter dash this past Saturday at Bunker Hill High School. Smith is second in the state in the 400-meter dash, just three-tenths of a second behind the state’s top runner in that event.
Eden Phillips finished first in the girls’ 400-meter dash and punched her ticket to the state championships as well.
The girls’ 1,600-meter relay team of Hannah McMahan, Adeline Phillips, Eden Phillips and Emma Duncan finished fourth at regionals and earned a trip to the state meet, as did the boys’ 4x200-meter relay team of Smith, Landon Miller, Jesse Pitman and Tyler McKinney.
Alternate Ben Robinson will run for Pitman, who pulled a hamstring during the event.
