Mitchell girls win JV title

Cook scores 14 in Western Highlands Conference championship

LEDGER – The Mitchell Lady Mountaineers junior varsity basketball team capped off a stellar season Friday, Feb. 22, with a 47-36 win over the Avery Lady Vikings in the Western Highlands Conference girls’ JV championship game.

Mitchell (16-3) got out to an early lead on the Lady Vikings, scoring 36 of team’s 47 total points in the first half behind freshman Cassity Cook’s  team-high 14 points. 

Chloe Carter scored 7 points and Meredith Dellinger 6 to help the Lady Mountaineers seal the 11-point win.

The Lady Mountaineers led 36-23 at halftime and held the Lady Vikings to just 14 second-half points en route to the victory.

The Lady Mountaineers junior varsity team is led by head coach and former Mitchell High School basketball standout Ryan Cook, who took over after previous coach Dawn Lowe took a job in Tennessee midseason. 

 

MHS 36 11 – 47: Cook 14, Dellinger 6, Carter 7, Silver 4, Banks 5, Bonamonio 2, Carver 3, Blevins 4

AHS 23 14 – 36: Autrey 3, Guzman 3, Walker 2, Maya 8, Stines 12, Beck 8, Greene 1
