Mitchell finishes 3rd at Osley B. Saunooke Tournament
CHEROKEE – Mitchell brought home four individual tournament champions, and a third- and fourth-place finish Saturday, Jan. 5, at the Osley B. Saunooke Tournament in Cherokee.
Dakota Tehandon, Dylan Lowery, Ryan Richardson and Hudson Boone all claimed individual titles, helping lead the Mountaineers to a third-place team finish with 106 points behind first-place team Pigeon Forge, Tennessee, and second-place team Swain County. Fourteen teams participated in the tournament.
Jason Smith also added a third-place finish and Israel Maltba placed fourth.
Richardson was named Most Outstanding Wrestler for the tournament, recording three more pins for the day.
“A long but positive day of wrestling today,” said Ed Duncan, Mitchell head wrestling coach. “Hats off to our parents and fans who were out in force today.”
Mitchell defeated Owen 54-24 Monday, Jan. 7, in Ledger and will host Polk County Thursday, Jan. 10, on senior night for the Mountaineers.
