MIDDLE SCHOOL FOOTBALL: Mountaineers lose 28-12 at East Yancey
BURNSVILLE – The Mitchell Middle School Mountaineers traveled to Burnsville Tuesday, Oct. 1, and fell 28-12 to Toe River Conference foe East Yancey.
Quarterback Chase Duncan provided most of the offense for the Mountaineers in the loss, going 7-for-9 passing for 125 yards and throwing a touchdown pass to tight end Caleb Cook. Duncan also rushed for another touchdown.
Kaden Phillips hauled in a pair of Duncan’s passes to account for his team-high 51 receiving yards in the game. Cook caught three passes for 44 yards, including his touchdown reception. Jace Blanton caught two passes for 30 yards.
M.J. Ledford led the Mitchell defense with six tackles (two for a loss), and Luke Yelton also recorded six tackles (one for a loss). Austin Styles and Rylan Cooper had four tackles each in the loss.
The Middle School Mountaineers ended their 2019 season at 6 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 8, at Avery. Results of that game were not available at press time.
