JV Mountaineers beat Avery, Owen, Polk

LEDGER – The Mitchell Mountaineers junior varsity boys’ basketball team ended the regular season Friday, Feb. 8, with a 51-26 win over the visiting Polk Wolverines. The win was the team’s third straight after claiming a 58-18 win over Avery Feb. 1 and winning 50-45 Feb. 5 over Owen in Black Mountain.

Tim Hollifield has been on a scoring tear during the three-game win streak, scoring 15, 11 and 13 points, respectively, during that stretch. Ty Pitman scored 9 points against Avery and had a team-high 18 points in the win at Owen. He had 7 points in this past Friday’s win over Polk.

Tyler Buchanan scored 7 points in the wins over Owen and Polk, and Cole Sparks added 6 points in the Polk win. 

The junior varsity Mountaineers ended the 2018-19 regular season with a 9-10 record overall and a 5-5 mark in the Western Highlands Conference.
