JV boys going for conference title

LEDGER – After a strong finish to a solid season, the Mitchell High School junior varsity boys’ basketball team has earned a spot in the Western Highlands Conference JV championship game.

Mitchell (14-4, 8-2 WHC) will play Mountain Heritage (16-1, 10-0 WHC) at 5 p.m. Friday, Feb. 16, at Madison High School for the title.

The Mountaineers ended the season with three-straight wins, earning a 48-36 victory over Polk and two over Owen, 45-30 and 40-30, respectively.

Troy Hoilman led Mitchell in the Monday, Feb. 5, win at Polk with 9 points. Mike Robertson added 7 while Cole Sparks, Seth McKinney and Jeremy Sparks scored 6 each.

Jacob Ward led Mitchell with 12 points Tuesday, Feb. 6, in the 45-30 win at Owen. Jess Ledford and Cole Sparks scored 8 each and Robertson had 7.

Hoilman again led Mitchell in scoring during the Thursday, Feb. 8, 40-30 win over Owen with 14 points. Cole Sparks added 8 and Ward 7 in the win.
