JV BOYS' BASKETBALL: Mountaineers fall short in close games
LEDGER – The Mitchell High School boys’ junior varsity basketball team is 2-4 in its last six games as the end of the regular season approaches.
The Mountaineers (6-10, 2-5) lost a close game Jan. 11 to Polk by a score of 37-33 behind double-digit scoring efforts from Ty Pitman (12 points) and Tyler Buchanan (11 points).
Tim Hollifield led Mitchell with nine points in 43-28 loss Jan. 15 to Avery.
The Mountaineers ended their two-game skid Jan. 16 with a 45-31 win over Hibriten behind Buchanan’s 16 points and Hollifield’s 11.
The boys’ junior varsity team got its second win in a row Jan. 18 with a 47-44 victory over Owen in Ledger. Pitman led all scorers with 18 points while Buchanan and Zach Holtsclaw added 7 points each.
The Mountaineers lost a close game Jan. 22 to rival Mountain Heritage by a score of 43-39. Pitman and Ty Sparks each scored seven points in the loss.
Mitchell lost its second-straight game Jan. 25 by a score of 49-40 at Madison. Sparks scored 12 points, and Pitman and Hollifield scored six each.
