Girls' Basketball: Lady Mountaineers look to end regular season strong
LEDGER – Mitchell High School’s girls’ basketball team split its two games this past week and is now 12-8 overall and 3-4 in Western Highlands Conference play.
The Mountaineers lost 61-48 at home to Mountain Heritage before edging Madison on the road 44-41.
Against Mountain Heritage, Mitchell got double-digit scoring efforts from junior Hannah McMahan (15 points) and sophomore Jill Pittman (13), but it wasn’t enough to overcome the Cougars, who shot 54 percent from the field compared to Mitchell’s 35 percent.
McMahan put together another 15-point game to help lead the Mountaineers to the win at Madison. She also registered a team-high four assists.
Sophomore Paige Johnson scored 13 points, and Pittman chipped in eight as the Mountaineers shot 35 percent from the field, including 37.5 percent from 3-point range, while Madison shot just 28 percent.
Johnson drained a team-high three 3-pointers and pulled down a game-high eight rebounds.
The Mountaineers hosted Polk Wednesday, Jan. 30, and Avery Friday before closing the regular season Tuesday, Feb. 5, at Owen.
