Partnership leads to new field for rec league, Bowman Middle teams

BAKERSVILLE – A vacant, unused field behind Gouge Elementary School has transformed into a new Mitchell County Parks and Recreation facility as the result of a partnership among the Parks and Recreation Department, the town of Bakersville, The Quartz Corp. and Cook Engineering.

Mitchell County Parks and Recreation Department Director Brock Duncan said the effort to create the field began around two years ago when he approached The Quartz Corp. about getting involved. In that time, the town of Bakersville donated the land, on which sat a dormant pumphouse, The Quartz Corp. bought the gravel being used for a 40-space parking lot and donated money for the required construction and Stan Cook, of Cook Engineering, designed the plans for the field.

Parks and Recreation and Bowman Middle School baseball teams will use the field.
