Current, future Mitchell wrestlers participate in Highland Challenge

LEDGER – Five current Mitchell wrestlers and three future Mountaineers participated Saturday, March 30, in the 14th annual Highland Challenge wrestling tournament at Mitchell High School. 

Wrestlers from across Western North Carolina and South Carolina participated in the annual event, hosted by the Western Carolina Wrestling Club. Wrestlers competed in both Greco-Roman and Freestyle wrestling at the event. 

Results for Mitchell County participants were: 

Clayton Geouge - second place in both styles

Cameron Cook - second place in both styles

Austin Styles - third place Greco-Roman 2nd place Freestyle

Isaac Moody - fourth place in both styles

Dylan Lowery - second place 16U Greco-Roman 1st place Junior Greco-Roman 1st place in both 16U and Junior Freestyle

Cameron Green - first place 16U Greco-Roman and 2nd place Junior Greco-Roman. 3rd place Freestyle 16U and 2nd place Junior Freestyle

Caleb Greene - third place in both styles

Samuel Shook - fourth place in both styles

The Western Carolina Wrestling Club practices from 6-7:15 p.m. Mondays and Thursdays at Mitchell High School. Any Mitchell County youth interested in learning the sport of wrestling is welcome to attend.
