11 football players named All-Conference
LEDGER – Eleven members of the 2018 Mitchell High School Mountaineers football team have been named to the Western Highlands All-Conference list.
Individual accolades were given to junior quarterback Noah Pitman, who was named the WHC Offensive Player of the Year, senior Hudson Boone shared Lineman of the Year honors with Polk County’s Luke Sellers, Mitchell junior kicker Elliot Kadans was named Special Teams Player of the Year and junior Tyler McKinney was named the WHC’s Athlete of the Year.
Also named to the All-Conference list were seniors Landon Miller, Jerry Cervantes and Hunter Johnson, sophomore Ty Sparks, senior Garrett Greene, junior Matthew Gilbert and junior Michael Robertson.
Pitman ended the season with 2,798 total yards – 1,451 passing and 1,347 rushing – and 32 touchdowns, 22 through the air and 10 rushing.
Boone tallied 80 tackles this past season, which includes 12 tackles for a loss.
Kadans averaged 58 yards per kickoff this past season and 58 of his 84 kicks were touchbacks. Kadans also made 52-of-61 point-after attempts and was 2-for-3 in field goal tries.
McKinney led Mitchell in all-purpose yards this past season with 1,731. He caught 37 passes for 897 yards and scored 12 touchdowns as well as gained 621 kick return yards and 197 yards on punt returns.
Cervantes tallied 33 tackles, Johnson 99 tackles and Sparks 62. Miller led the team with 108 tackles and racked up 1,110 yards rushing and 16 touchdowns. Miller also had 297 receiving yards and four touchdowns.
Greene had 25 tackles, Gilbert 77 tackles and Robertson 14.
