Sharon Duncan Bess, 70, died Sunday, Aug. 19, 2018, at Hospice of Cleveland County. Born Nov. 14, 1947, in Mitchell County, she was the daughter of the late Dennis Duncan and Ruth Grindstaff Duncan. Sharon was a member of Poplar Springs Baptist Church where she was the Sunday school teacher for 3-, 4- and 5-year-olds as well as a member of the Craft Ladies and Triple L. Sharon was retired from Dr. Joseph R. Hendrick’s Dental Office, a member of the Spruce Pine Chapter No. 27 Order of the Eastern Star and enjoyed camping and bluegrass music
Sharon is survived by her husband of 30 years, Harold Bess, of Shelby; one sister, Pat Hopson and husband, Joe, of Grover; one brother, Mike Duncan and wife, Shirley, of Altamont; brother-in-law, Hugh Bess and wife, Carolyn, of Shelby; and sister-in-law Hilda Bess Blanton and husband, Tony, of Shelby; as well as “our girls” Rebecca Blanton and husband, Eddie, of Shelby, Brooke Aldridge and husband, Darin, of Cherryville, Christy Humphries and husband, David, of Cherryville, Rodger Hopson, also of Cherryville, Amanda Koester, of Louisville, Kentucky, and Bella Baltierra and David Koester, also of Louisville, Kentucky.
A celebration of Life was 5 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 22, 2018, in the Family Life Center of Poplar Springs Baptist Church with the Rev. Andy Oliver officiating. The family received friends following the service.
