Gladys Duncan

Gladys Ollis Duncan, 88, formerly of Fairway Lane,

Spruce Pine, died Tuesday, Oct. 2, 2018, at Blue Ridge Regional

Hospital in Spruce Pine.

Born May 24, 1930, in Avery County, she was the daughter

of the late Russell and Ella Weatherman Ollis. In addition

to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband,

Eugene Duncan, who passed away in 1974. She was

also preceded in death by a nephew, Bobby McClellan; and

a sister, Wilma Burleson, and husband, Fred E. Burleson.

Gladys was a member of the Pine Branch Baptist

Church and was retired from Hampshire Hosiery with 25

years of service. She was proud of her grandchildren and

great-grandchildren. She was an avid reader and loved

reading her Bible. She enjoyed taking walks and her flowers.

Left to cherish her memories are her son, Gary Duncan,

and wife, Paula, of Spruce Pine; her grandson, Matt Duncan,

and wife, Kristy, of San Antonio, Texas; her granddaughter,

Brooke Burleson, and husband, Adam, of Spruce

Pine; her great-grandchildren, Skye Duncan, Troy Duncan,

Holland Burleson and Luca Burleson; and her sister, Edith

McClellan, of Hickory.

A funeral service honoring the life of Gladys Ollis Duncan

was 3 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 11, 2018, at Pine Branch Baptist

Church with the Rev. Bobby Joe Greene and Steve Williams

officiating. A time to support the family, share memories

and receive friends was 2-3 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 11, 2018, at

the church. Interment followed in the Pine Branch Baptist

Church Cemetery.

Flowers will be accepted and appreciated, or memorial

donations may be made to Medi Home Care, 1955 Newland

Hwy., Newland, NC 28657.

The family would like to extend a special “thank you” to

Hannah Hoilman, of Medi Home Care, and all of the staff

and management of Mitchell House for its excellent care

of Gladys.

Donald Phillips

Donald Wayne Phillips, 57, of Granite Falls, passed away

Friday, Oct. 5, 2018, at his residence.

Mr. Phillips was born Aug. 8, 1961, in Mitchell County to

the late Edward Eugene Phillips and Frances Ruth Phillips.

He worked as a shipping supervisor at Grasche USA. He

loved music and was a talented guitarist and singer. Mr.

Phillips loved his family and enjoyed spending time with

them. He had a great sense of humor and always left you

smiling and laughing.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a

brother, Edward Lee Phillips.

Those left behind to cherish his memory are his girlfriend

of 18 years, Angela Mullins, of the home; sons, Edward

Derek Phillips, of the home, Steve Yount, of Granite Falls,

and Justin Mullins, of Hickory; a daughter, Hollie Hill, of

the home; sisters, Frances Carlton, of Hudson, Kathy English,

and husband, Ricky, of Bakersville, Vivian Arrowood,

and husband, Douglas, of Bakersville, and Tammy Lingerfelt,

and husband, Kenneth, of Bakersville; and numerous

nieces and nephews.

A graveside service was 11 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 7, 2018, at

Gouge Cemetery in Bakersville conducted by Pastor Randy

English. The family received friends from 6-8 p.m. Monday,

Oct. 8, 2018, at Greer-McElveen Funeral Home.

Philip Robinson

Philip Mark Robinson, 51, of Halltown Road, Spruce Pine,

died Saturday, Sept. 29, 2018.

Born July 23, 1967, in Dade County, Florida, he was the

son of the late Philip Max and Cornell Biddix Robinson. In

addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by

his brothers, Wayne H. Robinson and Dennis Robinson.

Mark loved spending time with his family, friends and

especially his granddaughter, Bryleigh. He enjoyed playing

golf and camping. He was an avid Miami Dolphins fan and

liked listening to rock music. Mark was an expert at and

loved telling jokes.

Left to cherish his memories are his daughter, Keely

Ramsey, and husband, Spencer, of Burnsville; his granddaughter,

Bryleigh; his girlfriend, Teresa Mace, of Marion;

and her daughters, Jamie Mace and Betty Ann Vaughn, and

husband, Joshua.

A service to celebrate the life of Mark Robinson is 3 p.m.

Saturday, Oct. 13, 2018, in the Chapel of Webb Funeral

Home.

Robert Wilson

Robert Butler Wilson, 80, of Little Switzerland, passed

away Monday, Oct. 1, 2018, at John F. Keever Jr. Solace

Center in Asheville.

He was born July 25, 1938, in Mitchell County to the late

Johnny and Myrtle Butler Wilson. Robert was a member

of Beaver Creek Baptist Church in Spruce Pine and Vesper

Masonic Lodge No. 554 A.F. & A.M. A native of Mitchell

County, he graduated from Pleasant Gardens High School

and attended John A. Gupton School of Mortuary Science

in Nashville, Tennessee. During his early career, he

worked with Westmoreland

Hawkins Funeral Home in

Marion and Webb Funeral

Home in Spruce Pine. Robert

retired after 26 years of

service with Baxter Health

Care.

In addition to his parents,

he was preceded in death by

his wife, Geneva “Bunny”

Stewart Wilson. Those left

to cherish his memory are

sons, Robert Scott Wilson,

of Little Switzerland, Shane

Wilson, of Little Switzerland,

Stuart Wilson, and

wife, Christy, of Burnsville;

and granddaughter, Lexie Rae Wilson.

A service to celebrate Robert’s life was 3 p.m. Wednesday,

Oct. 3, 2018, at Beaver Creek Baptist Church in Spruce Pine.

The Rev. Brandon Pitman and the Rev. Josh Cooke officiated.

Burial followed at Grassy Creek Memorial Gardens

with Masonic graveside rites conducted by Vesper Masonic

Lodge. The family received friends from 1-2:45 p.m. before

the service at Beaver Creek Baptist Church.

The family would like to thank the staff at The Mitchell

House for the love and care given to Robert since November.
