Parnell Buchanan, 87, of Stagger Weed Road, Bakersville, went home to be with the Lord Nov. 12, 2017. He was a native of Mitchell County and a son of the late John and Ada Snyder Buchanan.
He was a Korean War Veteran and a member of Calvary Baptist Church. He was retired from Timken Steel, where he was in supervision. Parnell enjoyed spending time outdoors and he was an antique collector.
Survivors include his wife of 22 years, Emma Lee Staton Buchanan, of the home; one sister, Virginia Lowman (Wendell), of Connelly Springs; and 14 nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death, in addition to his parents, by his brothers, Eugene and Junior Buchanan.
Funeral Services were 1 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 15, 2017, in the chapel of Henline-Hughes Funeral Home with Aaron Causby and Dustin Sturgill officiating. The family received friends one hour prior to the service. Interment followed the service at Cane Creek Cemetery No. 1.

Glen Renfro, 89, of Pigeon Roost Road, Green Mountain, went home to be with the Lord Nov. 15, 2017. A native of Mitchell County, he was a son of the late Lester and Myrtle Miller Renfro. He was retired from Henredon Furniture as a machine operator and was a veteran of the United States Army. Glen attended Lower Pigeon Roost Freewill Baptist Church. He enjoyed gardening and his grandchildren were very special to him.
Survivors include his wife, Wanda Byrd Renfro, of the home; his daughter, Sharon Thomas (Danny), of Spruce Pine; his son, Jerry Renfro (Tammie), of Green Mountain; his sisters, Nora Metcalf, of Green Mountain, and Ora Mae Bailey, of Hickory; three grandchildren, Heather Goforth, Heath Renfro and Hudson Renfro.
He was preceded in death, in addition to his parents, by brothers, R.C., Burnie, Ray and Lloyd Renfro; and his sister, Grace Robinson.
Funeral services were 8 p.m. Friday, Nov. 17, 2017, at Lower Pigeon Roost Freewill Baptist Church with Marvin Miller and Junior Peterson officiating. The family received friends two hours prior to the service. Interment was 1 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 18, 2017, at Tipton Griffith Cemetery with Sgt. E.L. Randolph Chapter 57 DAV conducting military honors.

Paula Willis, 61, of Marshall, passed away Nov. 11, 2017. She was born in Spruce Pine, the daughter of the late Paul Willis Jr. and Laura Boone Willis.
She was the loving mother of two daughters, Christie Boyer, of Burnsville, and Laura Isaacs, of Asheville. She also has three grandchildren she loved more than life itself, Daniel Zartman, of Newland, A.J. Boyer, of Burnsville, and Nadia Hayden, of Asheville. She was also survived by two sisters, Ella Jo Willis and Judi Street; and one brother, Paul Willis III.
A private memorial service will be held for friends and family.
