Charles R. Buchanan
Charles R. Buchanan, 75, of Spruce Pine, went home to be with the Lord Wednesday, June 6, 2018, at his home. A native of Mitchell County, he was a son of the late Fred and Etta Day Buchanan. He was also preceded in death by his first wife, Minnie Pearl Buchanan, who passed away in 1989; a daughter, Charlene Buchanan Chrisawn, who passed away in 2005; and brothers, Frank, Lee and Bill Buchanan. He was a member of Altapass Baptist Church and owner and operator of Gem Mountain for 31 years. Next to his family, Gem Mountain was his pride and joy. Charles enjoyed horses, NASCAR racing and was a Redskins football fan. He was well-known in the community and always made you feel like you were at home. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and friend who will be greatly missed.
Left to cherish his memories are his loving wife of 28 years, Kay Cox Buchanan, with whom he spent every moment he could; children, Richard Cook, and wife, Elberta, of Danville, Virginia; Danyeale Buchanan Forbes, and husband, Jim, of Spruce Pine, Ben Cook, and fiancé, Melissa Moses, of Roanoke, Virginia, and Madonna Cook Fox and husband, Tim, of Burnsville; grandchildren, Dalton Cook, Sierra Cook Hutcheson, and husband, Tyler, Dylen Fischl, Carolina Wheeler, Caleb Forbes, Joshua Forbes, Joseph Forbes, Drew Cook, Addison Cook, Layton Fox and Logan Fox; great-grandson, who he had a very special connection with, Easton Hutcheson; a brother, Lawrence Buchanan, and wife, Paulette, of Newdale; special brother-in-law, Winston Hefner, and sister-in-law, Loretta Cox Hefner; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were 6 p.m. Saturday, June 9, in Crabtree Chapel Baptist Church. The Rev. Dallas Renfro and the Rev. Steve Sisk officiated. Burial followed in Crabtree Chapel Baptist Church Cemetery. The family received friends from 4-6 p.m. before the service at the church.

Jason Buchanan, 76, of Kay Willow Lane, Spruce Pine, died Wednesday, June 6, 2018, at his home.
Born Jan. 30, 1942, in Mitchell County, he was the son of the late Jeff and Mae Cox Buchanan. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his brothers, Milburn, Bill, Phillip, Jack, Gene and Jay Buchanan; and his sisters, Lucille Grinestaff and Elizabeth Burleson.
Jason was a member of the Yellow Mountain Baptist Church where he served as choir director, deacon and Sunday School teacher. He was retired from Henredon Furniture of Spruce Pine. Jason was a sociable person and enjoyed talking with people. He loved being with his family and his granddaughter. He enjoyed reading, studying the Bible and working puzzle books.
Left to cherish his memories are his wife, Barbara S. Buchanan, of Spruce Pine; his daughters, Elizabeth Blair, and husband, Michael, of Spruce Pine, and Rebecca Buchanan, of Spruce Pine; his granddaughter, Katherine Blair, of Spruce Pine; his sister, Augusta Gross, of Spruce Pine; and several nieces and nephews.
A funeral service honoring the life of Jason Buchanan 2 p.m. Saturday, June 9, 2018, at the Yellow Mountain Baptist Church with the Rev. Billy McGuire and the Rev. Michael Burnop officiating. A time to support the family, share memories and receive friends was 12:30-2 p.m. Saturday, June 9, 2018, at the church. Interment followed in the Yellow Mountain Cemetery.

Nelda Jones Dula
Nelda Jones Dula, 92, of Lenoir, passed away Saturday, May 26, 2018, at Shaire Center. She was born Nov. 18, 1925, in Mitchell County, to the late Thurman and Lucy Buchanan Jones. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Henry McKee “Mac” Dula; brother, Charles Edward Jones; and niece, Deborah Harrison.
Nelda graduated from public school in Bakersville then enrolled in Mars Hill College and A.S.T.C. in Boone. She taught school for 37 years, mostly at South Caldwell High School, where she taught home economics, science and chemistry. Nelda loved her job and was always delighted to encounter a former student. She was a devoted and active member of First Baptist Church of Lenoir and served her Savior in many capacities as long as she was able since Nov. 22, 1953. Nelda was an avid reader and enjoyed luncheons and fellowship with her book club friends. She loved nature and beautiful flowers.
Survivors include a great-niece, Angela Harrison, of Louisville, Kentucky; several cousins; and special friends, Carol and Neil.
A graveside service was 2 p.m. Friday, June 8, 2018, at Belleview Cemetery conducted by the Rev. Josh Hughes.

Martha Inman, 88, of Swiss Pine Court, Spruce Pine, died Wednesday, June 6, 2018, at her home.
Born March 19, 1930, in Columbus County, she was the daughter of the late Archibald Bruce and Mae Graham Stevens. In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her husband, Joe Inman, who passed away in 2011. She was also preceded in death by her sisters, Lila Jones and Mary Frink.
Martha was a member of the First Baptist Church of Spruce Pine and the Mom’s in Touch Prayer Group. She was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. Martha was a Christian and a disciple of Christ, and she participated in the local prison ministries. She was a kind person, and her door was always open to her neighbors.
A service to celebrate the life of Martha Inman was 2 p.m. Sunday, June 10, 2018, at the First Baptist Church of Spruce Pine with Dr. Rocky Branch and Dr. Bob Gray officiating.
