Guy Gene Biddix
Sept. 27, 1937 – Sept. 15, 2017
Mr. Guy Gene Biddix, 79, a former resident of Pheasant Drive, Washington, North Carolina, died Friday, Sept. 15, 2017, at Vidant Medical Center in Greenville.
Funeral services were 2 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 23, 2017, at the Chapel of Paul Funeral Home & Crematory in Washington. Burial followed in Oakdale Cemetery.
The following served as pallbearers: Chris Biddix, Mark Biddix, Scott Biddix, Timothy Biddix, Dail Biddix and Anthony Biddix. Honorary pallbearers will be Andrew Biddix, Joseph Biddix, Blake Biddix, Thomas Wierzbowski and Michael Wierzbowski.
Mr. Biddix was born Sept. 27, 1937, in Spruce Pine. He was the son of the late Willard George Biddix and Ressie Eller Hensley Biddix. Mr. Biddix was a U.S. Air Force veteran. He was a retired print master for Singer Furniture. As a youth, Mr. Biddix loved to play the guitar. In his spare time, he loved watching westerns on TV, the beach and the mountains.
On Nov. 26, 1960, Mr. Biddix married the former Margaret Cresawn, who preceded him in death on Jan. 6, 2006.
Mr. Biddix is survived by his sons, Chris Biddix (Karen), of York, Pennsylvania, Mark Biddix (Christine), of Aurora, Scott Biddix (Cheri), of Washington; grandchildren, Andrew Biddix, Sarah Biddix, Blake Price, Timothy Biddix, Joe Biddix, Dail Biddix, Anthony Biddix; step grandchildren, Thomas Wierzbowski, Michael Wierzbowski; and daughter-in-law, Kim Arthur.
In addition to his parents and his wife, Mr. Biddix was preceded in death by a son, Ronnie Biddix; great-grandson, Greyson Lee Biddix; brothers, Carl Estel Biddix, Willard Hickey Biddix Jr., William Steve Biddix, Charlie Mack Biddix; and sisters, Nila Mable Biddix, Melda Biddix, Phoebe Biddix and Kate Biddix.
The family received friends from 1-2 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 23, 2017, at Paul Funeral Home & Crematory in Washington.

Joe Boston, 88, of the Estatoe Community, went home to be with the Lord Monday, Sept. 18, 2017, at Blue Ridge Regional Hospital. A native of Mitchell County, he was a son of the late Bascom and Nora Vance Cox Boston. He was also preceded in death by a brother, Ralph Boston. Joe was a U.S. Army veteran. He was a lifelong member of Liberty Hill Baptist Church who enjoyed farming, tractors and antique cars.
Surviving is his loving wife of 68 years, Lona Buchanan Boston; sister, Willie McKinney, of Newdale; and a brother, Horace Boston and wife, Betty, of Estatoe. Several nieces, nephews and cousins also survive.
Funeral services were 2 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 21, at Liberty Hill Baptist Church. The Rev. Donnie Bryant and the Rev. Royce Ball officiated. Burial followed in the Liberty Hill Baptist Church Cemetery. The family received friends from 1-2 p.m. prior to the funeral service at the church.

Lucille Buchanan, 84, of Huntersville, passed away Thursday, Sept. 21, 2017, at her home.
A native of Bakersville, she was the daughter of the late William and Bertha Freeman Ledford and the wife of the late Bill Buchanan, who died in 2005. She was also preceded in death by brothers, Junior, George and Handy Ledford; sisters, Marie Brohard, Doris Sheagley and Ruth Holder; and her son-in-law, Arthur Cook.
She is survived by her son, Gary Buchanan and wife, Mary, of Hickory; daughter, Janet Cook, of Huntersville; sister, Darlene Gardner Burleson, of Bakersville; grandchildren, Amanda Buchanan, Brian Cook and wife, Stacia; and great-granddaughter, Rachel Cook.
Graveside services were 2 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 24, 2017, in the Lelia Randolph Buchanan Cemetery, Hwy 261, Bakersville. The Revs. Garry Revels and G.B. Garland officiated.

J.C. Vann Butler
J.C. Vann Butler, 77, of the Buladean community, passed away Wednesday, Sept. 20, 2017, at his home. He was the son of the late William and Mary Ellen Carver Butler and a member of the Grace Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife, Myrtle Banks Butler, of the home; daughters, Lori Butler South and husband, Steve, of Green Mountain, and Teresa M. Butler, of Bakersville; sisters, Lovetta Street, of Atlanta, Georgia, and Virginia Garland, of Bakersville; grandchildren, Cody South and Raquel Elliott; and great-grandchildren, Adrian South, Marlee Elliott and Remmie Elliott. J.C. was preceded in death, in addition to his parents, by four sisters; three brothers; and his grandson, Jason Sanders.
Funeral Services were 8 p.m. Friday, Sept. 22, 2017, in the chapel of Henline-Hughes Funeral Home with Ronnie Gouge officiating. The family received friends two hours prior to the service. Burial was 11 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 23, in the Fork Mountain Cemetery.

Maxine Duncan, 70, of Washburn Road, Spruce Pine, died Sunday, Sept. 17, 2017, at her home.
Born April 27, 1947, in Yancey County, she was the daughter of the late Fred and Ellen McNeill Grindstaff. In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her husband, Charles Duncan, who passed away in 1998. Also, preceding her in death were her sister, Maphra Armstrong; brother, James Grindstaff; and her grandsons, Justin and Jonathon Robertson.
She will be remembered for her love of cooking, reading and working in her flowers. She also deeply loved her grandchildren, and her six-pound Chihuahua, Mia. Maxine retired from Baxter after 34 years of service.
Left to cherish her memories are her daughters; Donna Mask and husband, Robert, of Spruce Pine, Melinda Robertson and husband, Chris, of Bakersville; grandchildren, Austin Mask, Rylie Mask, Dylan Robertson, Hunter Robertson and his girlfriend, Hannah Andrews; her sisters, Velma Conrad and husband, Carl, of Burnsville, Betty Frye, of Burnsville; her brother, Phillip Grindstaff and wife, Susie, of Forsyth, Georgia; and several nieces, nephews and friends.
A time to support the family, share memories and gather with friends and family was 6-8 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 21, 2017, at Webb Funeral Home in Spruce Pine.
