Bobby Samuel Byrd
Bobby Samuel Byrd, 78, son of the late Samuel and Ora Belle Davis Byrd, went home to be with his Lord Tuesday, May 23, 2017. He was a member of Liberty Hill Baptist Church where he taught Sunday School, served as a Deacon and loved his church family. Bobby enjoyed hunting, fishing and spending time with his family.
Left to cherish his memory is wife of nearly 60 years, Evelyn Hoyle Byrd; two sons, Douglas Byrd, and wife, Ann, of Lincolnton, and Roger Byrd, and wife, Donna, of Walnut Cove; two grandsons, Christopher and Michael Byrd; one granddaughter, Jennifer Byrd; two great-granddaughters, Dashia and Alexis Byrd; and two brothers, Charles Byrd, and wife, Laura Jane, and Ronnie Byrd, and wife, Sonya. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
Funeral Services were 3 p.m. Thursday, May 25, 2017, at Liberty Hill Baptist Church. The Rev. Ricky Ray officiated. Burial followed in the church cemetery. The family received friends from 2-3 p.m. prior to the service at the church.

Helen M. Clougherty
Sept. 11, 1921 — May 24, 2017
Helen M. Clougherty, 95, of Spruce Pine, died Wednesday, May 24, 2017, at her residence.
Born Sept. 11, 1921 in Braintree, Massachusetts, she was the daughter of the late Edward and Julia Keough Furlong. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Frances Edward Clougherty Sr. She was also preceded in death by her brothers, Edward, Charles and Andrew Furlong; and her sister, Virginia Phillip.
Helen had been a resident of Spruce Pine for the past five years. Along with her husband, Frances, she was the secretary for his printing business, Boston Printing, in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida, for 21 years. She loved her church and supported every aspect of church missions and outreach programs. She enjoyed sewing and was a very generous and giving person who always thought of others first.
Left to cherish her memories are her sons, Mike Clougherty, of Spruce Pine, and Frances E. Clougherty Jr., of Miami, Florida; her sister; Mary Furlong, of Braintree, Massachusetts; three grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
A time to support the family, share memories and receive friends was 7 p.m. Thursday, May 25, 2017, at Webb Funeral Home. Additionally, there was another time to support the family, share memories and support the family on Tuesday, May 30, 2017, at McMasters Funeral Home in Braintree. Interment was in the Blue Hills Cemetery.

Ethel Hoilman, 72, of McKinney Cove Road, Bakersville, went home to be with the Lord May 27, 2017. She was a native of Mitchell County and a daughter of the late Glen and Mae Mosley Banks.
Ethel was a member of Grace Baptist Church and enjoyed reading, cooking and spending time with her family.
Survivors include her husband, George Hoilman, of the home; two daughters, Pamela Honeycutt (Dustin), of Johnson City, Tennessee, and Paula Doan (Paul), of Bakersville; eight sisters, Thelma Lovelace, Pearl Yelton, Helen Yelton, Mary Garland, Myrtle Butler, Diane Farley, Josie Garland and Wanda Hope Yelton; two brothers, Ronnie and Marshall Banks; and three grandchildren, Josh, Jeremy and Jared Doan.
She was preceded in death, in addition to her parents, by two brothers, Russell and Edmund Banks.
Funeral services were 8 p.m. Monday, May 29, 2017, in the chapel of Henline-Hughes Funeral Home with the Rev. Ronnie Gouge officiating. The family received friends two hours prior to the service. Interment was 11 a.m. Tuesday, May 30, 2017, at Bailey Cemetery.

Helen Stout Weatherman
Helen Stout Weatherman, 88, of Three Mile in Newland, went to be with the Lord May 24, 2017, at the Mitchell House in Spruce Pine.
A native of Avery County, Helen was the daughter of the late Anna and Tom Stout. She was preceded in death by her brothers, Bob, Jack and Allen Stout; and her sister, Ruby Cressman.
Helen attended Walnut Grove Church. She was a hard worker and delighted in her beautiful flower garden, which was enjoyed by all.
Left to cherish her memories are her husband of 72 years, Bill Weatherman, of the home; her children, Lila Hales, and husband, Jim, of Raleigh, and Shirley Eason, and husband, Steve, of Raleigh; sister, Mabel Harvey, of Three Mile; brothers, Ray Stout, of Charlotte, and Fred Stout, of Three Mile; four grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
A funeral service honoring the life of Helen Weatherman was 3 p.m. Saturday, May 27, 2017, in the Chapel of Webb Funeral Home with the Rev. Kurt Bomar officiating. A time to support the family, share memories and receive friends was 1:30 p.m. until time of service Saturday in the funeral home chapel. Interment was in the Green Valley Baptist Church Cemetery.
