MARION

Corinne Callahan Canipe

Corinne Callahan Canipe, 92, formerly of Bakersville, went home to be with the Lord July 7, 2017. She was a native of Mitchell County and a daughter of the late Stokes and Ida Thomas Callahan. She was a member of Cub Creek Baptist Church.

Corinne was employed for 21 years at Bakersville Motel and Restaurant, where she served as a housekeeper and cook. Corinne was an avid gardener, growing and preserving vegetables and sharing flower “cuttings” with friends and neighbors. She loved to quilt and crochet always gifting friends and family with her beautiful creations. She also enjoyed reading and solving word puzzles.

Her family, especially the grandchildren, were the joy in her life. She delighted in “spoiling” them, having them visit, tucking them in at night with bedtime stories that became known as “rat tales.” Many cherished memories created and will be treasured and shared for generations to come.

Survivors include one son, James Canipe, and wife, Marjorie Young Canipe, of Marion; one daughter, Pamela Cirillo, of Mount Laurel, New Jersey; five grandchildren, Brent Canipe, of Marion, Samuel Canipe, of Florence, South Carolina, Dawn Randolph Bakely and husband, Daniel, of Turnersville, New Jersey, Kindel Randolph, of Mount Laurel, New Jersey, and April Randolph, of Northumberland, Pennsylvania; four great-grandchildren, Nicholas Cortese and wife, Marissa, of Freehold, New Jersey, Beth Canipe, of Marion, and Madeline and Seth Bakely, of Turnersville, New Jersey; one great-great-grandson, Jack Randolph Cortese, of Freehold, New Jersey; one brother, Charlie Callahan, of Kingsport, Tennessee; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, George Canipe; brothers, John and Mack Callahan; and sisters, Lily Bailey, Esther Boone and Hattie Thomas.

A celebration of life was 2 p.m. Monday, July 10, 2017, in the chapel of Henline-Hughes Funeral Home with Mike Peterson officiating. The family received friends one hour prior to the service. Interment followed the service at Bailey Cemetery.

SPRUCE PINE

Lucille Bartlett Glenn

Oct. 21, 1943 – July 7, 2017

Lucille Bartlett Glenn, 73, of Carters Ridge Road, Spruce Pine, passed away peacefully Friday, July 7, 2017, at her residence.

Born Oct. 21, 1943, she was the daughter of the late Lewis and Retha Gurley Bartlett. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, Charles Bartlett; and sisters, Grace Murphy, Clara Lee Pritchard, Lois Ann Bartlett and Faye Carswell.

Lucille was a member of Plum Branch Baptist Church where she taught Sunday school.

Left to cherish her memories are her husband of 56 years, Harold Glenn, of Spruce Pine; her sons, Steve Glenn and wife, Karen, and Darrin Glenn and wife, Susan, all of Spruce Pine; a daughter, Sandi Norton and husband, Gary, of Burnsville; 11 grandchildren, Dalton (April), Clayton, Emily (Ethan), Kodi, Tucker(Alesha), Tanner, Kenzie, Justice, Jacey, Journee and Jessy-Kate; four great-grandchildren, Tyson, Tripp, Taegan and Stevie; and two brothers, Ralph Bartlett and wife, Linda, and Lloyd Bartlett.

A funeral service honoring the life of Lucille Glenn was Sunday, July 9, 2017, at the Chapel of Webb Funeral Home in Spruce Pine with the Revs. Billy Mitchell, Kelly Bryant and Lawrence Glenn officiating. A time to support the family, share memories and receive friends was 2 p.m. until time of service Sunday at the funeral home. Interment was in the Newdale Presbyterian Church Cemetery.

SPRUCE PINE

Betty Baxter Warner

Oct. 30, 1921 — July 1, 2017

Betty Baxter Warner, 95, formerly of Fairway Lane, Spruce Pine, died Saturday, July 1, 2017, at Life Care Center of Banner Elk.

Born Oct. 30, 1921, in Flint, Michigan, she was the daughter of the late Roy and Eunice Good Baxter. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 49 years, William L. Warner, who passed away in 1995. She was also preceded in death by great-grandson, Jackson Lindsey.

Betty spent most of her life in Michigan and Illinois before moving to Spruce Pine following the death of her husband. She also spent winters in Texas. She loved taking camping trips, dancing and was an accomplished knitter.

Left to cherish her memories are her daughter, Cindy Lindsey, and husband, Dave, of Spruce Pine; her son, Richard Warner, and wife, Chris, of Kiawah Island, South Carolina; five grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

A memorial service will be planned and announced later.
