Mabel Buchanan Stamey, 88, of Buchanan Street in Spruce Pine, went to be with the Lord Wednesday, April 24, 2019, after a long illness.
Born March 20, 1930, in Mitchell County, she was the daughter of the late Virgil and Maggie Buchanan. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Ed Stamey, who passed away in 2008. She was also preceded in death by two infant daughters; her brothers, Earl, Brown, Buster, Coleman and Arnold Buchanan; and her sisters, Hazel Wyatt, Bell Jones and Rachel Buchanan.
She loved her family and enjoyed them very much. She was always concerned for others, putting them before herself. She also loved gardening and working in her flowers and home decorating. She was a member of the Beaver Creek Baptist Church for many years and was retired from Hampshire Hosiery of Spruce Pine.
Left to cherish her memories are her son, Eddie Stamey, and wife, Brenda, of Spruce Pine; and daughter, Kim Hoyle, and husband, Ray, of Spruce Pine; her brother, Carl Buchanan, of Bakersville; three grandchildren; four step-grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; three step great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
A funeral service for Mabel Stamey was 3 p.m. Sunday, April 28, 2019, at Beaver Creek Baptist Church with the Rev. Brandon Pitman officiating. A time to support the family, share memories and receive friends was 2-3 p.m. Sunday, April 28, 2019, at the church. Interment was in the Mt. Carmel Baptist Church Cemetery.
