Lucille Buchanan Ellis
Lucille Buchanan Ellis, 93, of Cane Creek Road, Bakersville died Monday, Aug. 13, 2018, at Blue Ridge Regional Hospital in Spruce Pine.
Born June 27, 1925, in Mitchell County, she was the daughter of the late Clarence S. and Ella Morgan Buchanan. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husbands, the Rev. Bruce Buchanan, who passed away in 1987, and Ernest T. Ellis, who passed away in 2013. She was also preceded in death by two brothers, Jack and Maurice Buchanan; two half-brothers, George and Harry Ledford; and one son-in-law, Derwin Woody.
Left to cherish her memories are her four daughters, Betty Garland and husband, Bruce, Margaret Baker and husband, Arthur, and Kay Woody, all of Bakersville, and Victoria Lewis and husband, Thom, of North Wilkesboro; and one stepson, Charles Arnold Ellis and wife, Billie, of Johnson City, Tennessee.
She was lovingly called “Mama Lou” by her four grandchildren, Kimberly Neil, of Kingsport, Tennessee, Christopher Baker and wife, Kimberly, of Holly Springs, Stephanie Dellinger and husband, Dale, of Bakersville, and Wesley Woody and wife, Jyoti, of Apex. She was blessed with seven great-grandchildren, Megan and Meredith Dellinger, Nathan, Abby and Ben Baker, and Jakob Neil and Elijah Woody.
The funeral service honoring the life of Lucille Ellis was 3 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 16, 2018, at McKinney Cove Baptist Church with the Rev. Todd Ayers and the Rev. Vernon Buchanan officiating. A time to support the family, share memories and receive friends was 2-3 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 16, 2018, at the church. Interment will follow in the Wilson Young Cemetery.
