Lee Sparks, 90, of Phil Buchanan Road, Spruce Pine, went to be with his Lord and Savior Monday, Dec. 10, 2018, at Blue Ridge Regional Hospital in Spruce Pine.
Born June 20, 1928, in Lincoln, Nebraska, he was the son of the late Avery and Bonnie Callahan Sparks. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Dorothy Buchanan Sparks, who passed away in 2000. He was also preceded in death by an infant son, Dennis Sparks; his daughters, Shelia Sparks Buchanan and Lisa Sparks McKinney; his sisters, Arlene McKinney and Edith Scott; and his stepson, Larry Cannon.
Lee was a member and deacon of the Pine Branch Baptist Church. He loved the Lord, his church and church family. He was retired from Pepsi-Cola with more than 30 years of service. He loved working and enjoyed fishing.
A funeral service honoring the life of Lee Sparks was 2:30 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 13, 2018, at Pine Branch Baptist Church with the Rev. Bobby Joe Greene, the Rev. Walter Ponder and the Rev. Steve Williams officiating. A time to support the family, share memories and receive friends was 1-2:30 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 13, 2018, at the Pine Branch Baptist Church. Interment was in the Pine Branch Baptist Church Cemetery.
Left to cherish his memories are his wife of 17 years, Clara Shirley Sparks, of the home; his son, Kenny Sparks, and wife, Tiny, of Spruce Pine; his grandchildren, Chad Buchanan, and wife, Jan, of El Centro, California; Michael Buchanan, and wife, Thea, of Spruce Pine; Bryan Sparks and wife, Elizabeth, of Spruce Pine; and Lacy McKinney, of Spruce Pine; his great-grandchildren, Ty Sparks, Reagan Sparks and Emma Buchanan; step-grandchildren, Charlie Cannon, Dawn Dirhold and James Cannon; special friends, Ray and Shirley Boone; and several nieces and nephews.
