Laura Kay Biddix Simerly, 71, of Dennis Cove Road, Hampton, Tennessee, died Saturday, March 16, 2019, at the Johnson City Medical Center.
Born Jan. 22, 1948, in McDowell County, she was the daughter of the late Aaron “Bud” Biddix and Ruby McGuire Biddix. In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by a brother, Aaron “Sunny” Biddix Jr.
Laura Kay was a member of the Altapass Church of God in Spruce Pine. She loved her family, friends and especially her grandchildren. She also cared greatly for her nieces. She loved her dogs, Ruby, Pee Wee and Bruno.
Left to cherish her memories are her husband of 42 years, Jess Simerly, of Hampton, Tennessee; her sons, Scott Shore, of Hampton, Tennessee, and Chris Simerly, of Johnson City, Tennessee; her grandchildren, Alley and Alex Shore, and Harper Simerly; her sisters, Mary Ellen Hollifield, of Spruce Pine, and Charlotte Edwards, of Spruce Pine; her special friend, Jennifer Kelso; and several nieces and nephews.
A funeral service for Laura Kay Simerly was 2 p.m. Thursday, March 21, 2019, at the Altapass Church of God with the Rev. Cameron Smith and the Rev. Steve Williams officiating. A time to support the family, share memories and receive friends was 6-8 p.m. Wednesday, March 20, 2019, at the Rhododendron Chapel of Tetrick Funeral Home in Roan Mountain, Tennessee. Interment was in the McKinney Gap Cemetery in Spruce Pine.
The family would like to extend special “thanks” to the ICU staff of the Johnson City Medical Center; Wings Air Rescue; Dr. Frank Johnson and staff; and Mitchell County EMS personnel Kirsten Proffitt and Scott Pritchard for the extraordinary care of Laura Kay during her illness.
