John McClure Vance, 53 of Bent Road, Spruce Pine, went home to be with the Lord Sept. 18, 2018. He was the son of the late Sam and Oakalene Buchanan Vance and a native of Mitchell County.
John was a graduate of Mitchell High School and Mayland Community College. John owned and operated Sam Vance Rental for 30 years, and was also a Licensed North Carolina Electrical Contractor where he owned and operated John M. Vance Electric Inc. for 20 years. He was a member of Western Carolina Church. John touched many lives with his voice, and he loved to play and sing. He loved music and was a gifted guitar and bass player. He was a father, brother, church member, leader and all-around amazing man.
Survivors include his wife, Jennifer Mull Vance, of the home; one son, Christian Thorne Mallatere, United States Navy at Norfolk, Virginia; sisters, Sammie Vance Ellis, of Spruce Pine, Cathy Vance Beam, of Shelby, and Betty Vance Poore, of Jonas Ridge; sister-in-law, Michelle Mitchell; father and mother-in-law, Jerry and Pat Mull; three nephews; one niece; five great-nieces; and one great-nephew.
He was preceded in death by his parents, in addition to his brother-in-law, Mike Ellis.
Funeral services were 5 p.m. Friday, Sept. 21, in Western Carolina Church with Randy Bonner and William Ellis officiating. The family received friends from 2:30 p.m. until the service time at the church. Private interment followed the service at Pyatte Cemetery.
