Joe Biddix, 87, of Altapass Highway, Spruce Pine, died peacefully July 2, 2019, at his home surrounded by his family.
Born Aug. 8, 1931, in Mitchell County, he was the son of the late Will and Belle Sullins Biddix. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Rex V. McKinney; and a sister, Ethel Elliot. He was also preceded in death by a son-in-law, Mike Rensink; and a daughter-in-law, Jackie Sparks Biddix.
Joe was a member of the Altapass Baptist Church, where he had served as Chair of the Deacons and had been both a Sunday School teacher Sunday School superintendent. He was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force. He was a charter member of the Mitchell County Gideon’s Camp that was organized in 1990 and was retired from American Thread with 44 years of service. For the past 20 years, he had been employed by Webb Funeral Home.
Joe was known as a people person with a kind heart and spirit. He was always looking to help others and particularly those in need. He loved people, and his gentleness was easily evident to all that knew him. He loved his family and spending time with them. In his spare time, he was an avid reader and enjoyed working crossword puzzles.
Left to cherish his memories are his wife, Virginia Glenn Biddix, of Spruce Pine; his daughter; Jackie Rensink, of Spruce Pine; his son, Tim Biddix, of Spruce Pine; his brother, Bruce Biddix, of Spruce Pine; his sister, Cora Markford, of Florida; his grandchildren, Heather Burleson and husband, Vic, of Spruce Pine, Tyler Biddix and wife, Sheena, of Spruce Pine, Jane Williams and husband, Dustin, of Chapel Hill, and Freddie Tipton, of Marion; and his great-grandchildren, Colton, Luke and Cadence Burleson, Hannah Biddix, Deklan and Kellan Williams, and Austin and Briana Tipton.
A funeral service for Joe Biddix was 1 p.m. Saturday, July 6, 2019, at the Altapass Baptist Church with Dr. Marcus Benfield, the Rev. Tony Lominac and the Rev. Steve Davis officiating. A time to support the family, share memories and receive friends was 11 a.m. until time of services Saturday, July 6, 2019, at the church. Interment was in the Glenn Cemetery.
The family would like to extend a special “Thank You” to the staff of Hospice and Palliative Care of the Blue Ridge for the wonderful care of Joe during his illness.
In keeping with his wishes, Joe asked that instead of flowers, donations be made to the Gideon’s, P.O. Box 611, Spruce Pine, NC 28777.
