Jean Whitson, 84, of Marion, passed away at her home on the morning of Saturday, Oct. 20, 2018, while surrounded by loved ones. The daughter of the late Brack and Maydath Stamey Buchanan, she was born Sept. 21, 1934, in Bakersville.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Brown Whitson; and one brother, Billy Buchanan.
Young at heart, Jean had a beautiful spirit and loved life. She was a member of the McDowell County Republican Women’s Club. Jean had served more than 25 years on the McDowell County Board of Elections. When she was able, she attended Hicks Chapel Baptist Church.
She is survived by her fiance, Howard; one son, Donnie Whitson; one daughter, Revonda Hudgins; one granddaughter, Vallarie Whitson; two precious great-grandsons, Preston and Wesley Moody; and special friend, Lynn Reynolds.
A funeral service will be 6 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 24, 2018, in the Chapel of Beam Funeral Service in Marion with Pastor Matt McDaniel officiating. The family will receive friends from 5-6 p.m. prior to the service at the funeral home.
A committal service will be 2 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 25, 2018, at Cane Creek Cemetery in Bakersville.
