Hal Ellis Sparks
Hal Ellis Sparks, 74, died unexpectedly at his home in Loganville, Georgia, Sept.16, 2018. He was born at home in the Ledger community on May 22, 1944, to Hankins and Myrtle Ellis Sparks, who preceded him in death.
He attended Ledger Elementary School and graduated from Bowman High School in 1962. Hal was employed by Winn-Dixie Stores for 29 years and had recently retired from Old Dominion Freight Lines after 22 years of service.
He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Ann Gentry Sparks; his daughters, Nancy Daniel, of Gainesville, Georgia, and Sandy DuMay, of Winder, Georgia; five grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
He is also survived by his sisters, Carolyn Diemer, of Lynchburg, Virginia, and Evelyn Slagle, of Raleigh. A memorial service was Thursday, Sept. 20, at Snellville First Baptist Church.
Hal was known for having a strong work ethic, for his kindness, helpfulness and his wonderful laugh.
He will be remembered for his love of, and devotion to, his family. We, in turn, love and will always miss him.
