Forrest Biddix, 89, of Maple Road, in the Altapass community of Spruce Pine, died Wednesday, July 31, 2019, at Blue Ridge Regional Hospital in Spruce Pine. Born June 23, 1930, in Mitchell County, he was the son of the late Stacy and Ruth Hogan Biddix. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his wife, Lola Wise Biddix, who passed away in 2012. He was also preceded in death by a sister, Lucy Biddix Hall; and a brother, E.J. Biddix.
Forrest was a member of the Altapass Church of God and was a U.S. Marine veteran of the Korean War, and he was awarded the Purple Heart. He was proud of being born and raised in the Blue Ridge Mountains of Western North Carolina. He enjoyed loafing on back roads, and the Blue Ridge Parkway was his favorite road to travel. He was known as a great storyteller and loved sharing stories with his children and grandchildren. He never met a stranger, and he loved and lived for his family and granddaughters. He also had a great talent for being an animal whisperer.
Left to cherish his memories are his daughter, Nora McKinney, of Spruce Pine; his son, Joey Biddix, and wife, Linda, of Fort Mill, South Carolina; his granddaughter, Heather Biddix; Gary McKinney, the father of his granddaughters, Abigail McKinney and Paige McKinney; his great-grandson, Ethan Silver; his brothers, Wendell and Bud Biddix; and his sisters, Agnes Burleson, Faye Wise, Atlas “Atchie” Benton and Linda McKinney.
A funeral service for Forrest Biddix was 11 a.m. Sunday, Aug. 4, 2019, at the Altapass Church of God with the Rev. Steve Davis and the Rev. Ron Leasure officiating. A time to support the family, share memories and receive friends was 6-8 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 3, 2019, at the Altapass Church of God. Interment was in the McKinney Gap Cemetery with Military Honors provided by the Sgt. E.L. Randolph Chapter of the D.A.V. Instead of flowers, the family requests memorial donations be made to either Altapass Church of God Building Fund, 3987 Altapass Church of God Road, Spruce Pine, NC 28777; or Hospice and Palliative Care of the Blue Ridge, 236 Hospital Drive, Spruce Pine, NC 28777. The family would like to extend a special “thank you” to the staff of Hospice and Palliative Care of the Blue Ridge and the staff of Blue Ridge Regional Hospital for the wonderful care taken of Forrest during his illness.
