Carolyn Sparks Diemer

Carolyn Sparks Diemer, 81, died Sept. 22, 2019, in Lynchburg, Virginia, after several years of declining health. She was preceded in death by her parents, Hankins and Myrtle Sparks, of Bakersville; and a brother, Hal Sparks, of Loganville, Georgia.  

Carolyn was born July 19, 1938, in Spruce Pine, and graduated from Bowman High School in 1956. She was also a graduate of Gardner-Webb College, Carson Newman College and Southwestern Seminary. Carolyn received her doctorate in education from Nova University. She taught elementary school and middle school in Texas and Missouri. For 27 years, she taught in the School of Education at Liberty University. She is survived by her husband, Dr. Carl J. Diemer, of Lynchburg, Virginia; her son, Curtis Diemer, also of Lynchburg; her daughter, Christy Diemer, of Hood River, Oregon; four grandchildren; and a sister, Evelyn Slagle, of Raleigh. 

Funeral services were Friday, Sept. 27, at Hyland Heights Baptist Church in Rustburg, Virginia.. Burial followed at Fort Hill Memorial Park in Lynchburg. Contributions may be made in Carolyn’s memory to Hyland Heights Baptist Church, 11452 Wards Road, Rustburg, VA 24588.
