Bessie Silvers Smith, 88, of the Estatoe Community, went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, Aug. 28, 2019, at her home surrounded by her loving family.
A native of Mitchell County, she was a daughter of the late Dallas and Rose Carpenter Silvers. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Frank Smith, who passed away in 2008; a son, Gary Dale Smith, who passed away in 2017; brothers, Roy, Paul and Perry Silvers; and sisters, Jennie King, Grace Biddix and Maude Silvers.
Bessie loved yard sales and spending time with and taking care of her family. Surviving is her daughter, Debbie Boone, of Estatoe; daughter-in-law, Wanda Smith, of Estatoe; siblings, Frances Pruitt and husband, Bill, of Morganton, Louise Bishop and husband, Bobby, of Newdale, Wilma McMahan, of Estatoe, Charles Silvers, of Penland, and L.D. Silvers and wife, Billie, of Penland; grandchildren, Shandra Tolley (Dale), Travis Smith (Sarah), Nickole Bullis (Bret) and Tyler Murphy (KayLee). Several other step-grandchildren, numerous great-grandchildren and many other extended family members also survive.
Funeral services were 7 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 3, in the Chapel of Yancey Funeral Services. The Rev. Arnold Buchanan and the Rev. Toby Crowder officiated. The family received friends from 5-7 p.m. before the services at the funeral home. Graveside services were 11 a.m. Wednesday in Liberty Hill Baptist Church Cemetery.
