Alma H. Parker Pate, 87, of the Crabtree Community, went home to be with the Lord Wednesday, May 8, 2019, at Blue Ridge Regional Hospital. A native of Mitchell County, she was a daughter of the late Robert and Daisy Whitson Hoilman. She was also preceded in death by her first husband, John “J.C.” Parker; infant daughter, Sammy Lou Parker; son, Rocky Parker; sister, Ruby Hoilman; and a brother, Fred Hoilman.
Alma retired from Baxter after 17 years of service. She was a member of Crabtree Chapel Baptist Church who loved quilting, gardening, her flowers, her chickens, and bird- and squirrel-watching. Later in life, she loved to color and do artwork.
Left to cherish her memories is her loving husband of 40 years, Reece Pate; daughter, Alfreda Hughes, and husband, Mark, of Bear Creek; son, Robert Parker, and wife, Diana, of Crabtree; grandchildren, Melinda Parker, Holly Parker and Clay Parker; step-grandchildren, Richard Dean Pate and Nikki Bates; great-grandchildren, Alyssa Parsons, Roxanna Parker, Hayden Parker, Grayson Parker, Kadence Roberts, Christian Parker and Deysi Parker; step-great-grandchildren, Bo Pate and Devon Frady; sisters, Georgia Bailey, of Unicoi, Tennessee, and Jerylene B. Durnan, of Glenwood Springs, Colorado; and a special friend, Charlene “Shorty” Hoyle, of Bear Creek. Several other extended family members also survive.
Funeral services were 2 p.m. Saturday, May 11, in the chapel of Yancey Funeral Services. Pastor Jason Kritz officiated. Burial followed in the Crabtree Chapel Baptist Church Cemetery. The family received friends from 1-2 p.m. before services at the funeral home.
