Wilma Ollis Burleson, 91, of Kaywilla Lane, Spruce Pine, died Monday, July 16, 2018, at the Brian Center Health and Rehabilitation.

Maxine Brown Pendley, 83, of Spruce Pine, went home to be with the Lord Wednesday, July 11, 2018. She was the wife of the late Fred Lee Pendley and the daughter of the late Pinkney Brown and Mary Greer Brown, of the Cranberry Community. She was also preceded in death by a grandson, Christopher Lee Autrey; sisters, Iva Lee Pitman, Geraldine Gragg and Ileen Gragg; one brother, George Clayton Brown; and a step-granddaughter, Michelle Dawn Stevens.  Maxine was a lifelong member of Green Valley Baptist Church.

Russell Ellsworth Macomber Jr., 74, of Feldspar Street, Spruce Pine, died Friday, July 13, 2018, at Blue Ridge Regional Hospital in Spruce Pine.

Charles “Chuck” Hudson Jr., 83, of Burnsville, went home to be with the Lord Monday, July 9, 2018. Chuck was a 20-year retired veteran of the U.S. Air Force, having served during the Vietnam Era.

Winnifred “Winnie” Y. Bridge, 74, of Bear Creek Church Road, Bakersville, went home to be with the Lord June 30, 2018. She was a native of Mitchell County, and a daughter of the late Woodrow and Eva Ledford Yelton. She was retired from Ellen Knitting Company and was a member of Bear Creek Baptist Church.

Randall Eskew, 78, of Spruce Pine, passed away July 2, 2018, at Blue Ridge Regional Hospital with his wife by his side. A native of Greenville, South Carolina, he was a son of the late Teasley and Rosa Lee Teague Eskew. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his twin brother, Raymond Eskew.

Norma Surles King, 94, of Goldsboro, passed away suddenly Thursday, June 28, 2018, while enjoying her beloved Echo Cottage in Little Switzerland.

Brenda Rae Lankford, 71, went home to be with her Savior July 4, 2018, after a valiant battle with kidney disease. Her devotion to her family and her unwavering belief in God supported her in her struggle and ultimately gave her peace.

Funeral services to celebrate the life of Julius “Jay” Walker McKay, 95, of Columbia, South Carolina, were 11 a.m. Sunday, July 8, at Trinity Episcopal Cathedral, 1100 Sumter St., in Columbia. The Rev. Tim Jones officiated the service. The family received friends at the house from 2-4 p.m. Sunday, July 8. The reception followed the service. McKay passed died July 6, 2018.
