Cynthia Ann ‘Cindy’ Sparks Osborne

Cynthia “Cindy” Sparks Osborne left us peacefully to become our Angel in heaven the morning of Oct. 9, 2017, surrounded by the family and many friends who loved her so. Cindy was born July 25, 1958, to Charlene and Deward Sparks, of Bakersville, but grew up in Coconut Creek, Florida, attending Coconut Creek High School, where she made many lasting friends.

Lona Buchanan Boston, 84, of the Estatoe Community, went home to be with the Lord Saturday, Sept. 30, 2017, at her home. A native of Mitchell County, she was a daughter of the late Spurgeon and Estie Buchanan, and the wife of the late Joe Boston, who passed away Sept. 18, 2017.

She was also preceded by siblings, Maxie Burgin, Evelyn Hensley, Lorene Harris, Dorothy Buchanan, Sherrill Buchanan and John Tipton.

Fred Bremer, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and truck driver – died Friday, Sept. 8, 2017, in Bakersville, from Glioblastoma brain cancer. He was 65 years old.

Guy Gene Biddix

Sept. 27, 1937 – Sept. 15, 2017

 

Mr. Guy Gene Biddix, 79, a former resident of Pheasant Drive, Washington, North Carolina, died Friday, Sept. 15, 2017, at Vidant Medical Center in Greenville.

Funeral services were 2 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 23, 2017, at the Chapel of Paul Funeral Home & Crematory in Washington. Burial followed in Oakdale Cemetery.

Geneva Young Boone

On Sunday morning, Sept. 10, 2017, Geneva Young Boone, 86, arrived at Heaven’s Gate to be greeted by brother Warren Young, and sisters Wilma Boone, Shelba Jean Grindstaff, Floy Gage and Allie Buchanan; and her parents, James and Daisy Hall Young. Jesus enfolded her in His arms of welcome and a joyous reunion began. Geneva was a member of Lily Branch Baptist Church and retired from Baxter Healthcare.

Ben Bonner, 17, of Thomas Road, Spruce Pine, died Tuesday, Sept. 5, 2017, at the Memorial Campus of Mission Hospitals in Asheville.

Born July 11, 2000, in Catawba County, he was the son of Randy and Michelle Bonner. He was a member of the Western Carolina Church in Spruce Pine and a senior at Mitchell High School.

Mary Lee “Sis” Snipes Cuthbertson, 93, passed away Aug. 16, 2017, at the John F. Keever Solace Center in Asheville. She was born Sept. 4, 1923, to the late Alonzo and Florence McKinney Snipes.

Peggy Campbell Cox

 

Peggy Campbell Cox, 74, went home to be with the Lord Jan. 4, 2017. She was a daughter of the late Nave and Daisy Mosley Campbell and a native of Mitchell County. She was previously employed in restaurant work and as a hospice caregiver. She was a member of Buladean Presbyterian Church.

Marie Buchanan Sparks

Marie Buchanan Sparks, 96, of the Ledger community, Bakersville, went home to be with the Lord Friday, Aug. 4, 2017, at the Mitchell House in Spruce Pine.

She was the daughter of the late Willard and Vaultie Wilson Buchanan and the wife of the late Harry Sparks. She was also preceded in death by sisters, Lela Duncan, and Melba Rhyne; and brothers, Jim, Joe, James and Willard Buchanan Jr.

Stancil Terry Callahan

Stancil Terry Callahan, 79, of the Brush Creek Community, passed away Monday, July 17, 2017. A native of Mitchell County, he was a son of the late Stancil Dewitt and Verna Webb Callahan. He was also preceded in death by a sister, Linda Callahan; and brothers, Roger and Lee Callahan. Terry was a U.S. Army Veteran and was owner and operator of Top Quality Construction. He liked working, fishing and playing hard. He especially loved spending time with his family.

Corinne Callahan Canipe, 92, formerly of Bakersville, went home to be with the Lord July 7, 2017. She was a native of Mitchell County and a daughter of the late Stokes and Ida Thomas Callahan. She was a member of Cub Creek Baptist Church.

Charles W. Carpenter

 

Charles W. Carpenter, 69, of Tempie Mountain Road, Spruce Pine, went home to be with the Lord unexpectedly Tuesday, June 27, 2017, at Blue Ridge Regional Hospital. A native of Mitchell County, he was a son of the late Katherine Carpenter and Frank Burleson. He was also preceded in death by a sister, Gina Burleson; and a brother, Frank Burleson.

June 6, 1923 – June 21, 2017

Elsie Sparks McKinney entered the presence of her Lord June 21, 2017, in Pahrump, Nevada, where she lived for the past three years with her daughter, Loretta, and her family. She fought the good fight to the end, keeping in touch with family and friends until the last few weeks.

Christine Hicks, 82, of Red Bud Lane, Spruce Pine, went to her heavenly home for a family reunion Tuesday, June 13, 2017, at the Brian Center Health and Rehab.

Born April 1, 1935, in Avery County, she was the daughter of the late Jeter and Florence Dellinger McKinney. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brothers, Cleone and Glenn McKinney; and her sister, Frances Ledford.
