Etta Wise Piercy McKinney, 92, of Marion, passed away Saturday, March 16, 2019, at Mission Hospital-McDowell with her family by her side. A native of Mitchell County, Etta was born Oct. 30, 1926, to the late Dave and Maude Burleson Wise.
Elizabeth Anglin McKinney, 90, of the Grassy Creek Community, went home to be with the Lord Monday, March 11, 2019. She was born in the Cane River Community of Yancey County to the late Mary Geneva Ray.
Doug Vance, 59, of Spruce Pine, passed away Monday, Feb. 25, 2019. A native of Mitchell County, he was a son of the late Robert “Bob” Vance and Betty Pate Pafford. He was a 1978 graduate of Harris High School and had a long career as a chef at numerous restaurants throughout the United States. Most recently he was an employee of the NC Department of Public Safety as a Food Service Officer with 14 years of service. Doug enjoyed golfing, boating, fishing and cooking.
While traveling and visiting family, Ronald Ray Nelson, 84, of Little Switzerland, passed away peacefully Saturday, Feb. 23. He was cared for in his brother Keith’s home in Yuma, Arizona, and surrounded by his loved ones.
Ron was born at home, to parents Hans Nelson and Ina Nelson, Sept. 14, 1934, on a small farm in Maskell, Nebraska.
Gary Wayne Freeman, 52, of Richmond Avenue, Bakersville, went home to be with the Lord Wednesday, Feb. 27, 2019. He was a member of Red Hill Baptist Church and was formerly employed as a Rock Mason and Millwright Worker.
Larry Dean Greene, 71, of NC 261, Bakersville, passed away Feb. 20, 2019. A native of Mitchell County, he was a son of Landon Greene Jr. and Natalie Hobson Greene. He obtained his degree in radio broadcasting, was the office manager for DHS Express and managed a large theater complex named Famous Player. He was a member of Fork Mountain Baptist Church. He loved animals and his friends.
Charlotte Jo Jones, 82, of Kings Mountain, passed away Wednesday, Feb. 13, 2019, at Atrium Health-Cleveland in Shelby. She was born in Mitchell County to the late Floyd Everette Buchanan and Belle Frye Buchanan. Charlotte was a longtime member of Kings Mountain Baptist Church. She enjoyed feeding and watching the birds around her home. She was a wonderful and loving wife to her husband, Ted, for 55 years.
Tiffany Dawn Hoilman, 31, of Melbourne, Florida, formerly of Bakersville, passed away Wednesday, Feb. 6, 2019. She was a native of Mitchell County and employed as a telemarketer. She was a member of Cub Creek Baptist Church. She was a caring and kind person to all. She loved all animals.
