Natasha Lynn Campbell Hullett, 30, of Dale Road, Spruce Pine, died Sunday, Oct. 14, 2018, at Blue Ridge Regional Hospital in Spruce Pine.

Nancy “Sue” Wilson Hobson, 79, of Hwy 261, Bakersville, went home to be with the Lord Oct. 20, 2018. She was a native of Mitchell County and a daughter of the late Dayton and Anna Lee Cain. She was a member and Sunday School teacher at Cloudland Baptist Church. She retired from Mitchell County Agricultural Extension Office, where she was a nutritionist. She loved her flowers, spending time with her family and her church family. 

Doris Greene Hobson, 85, of Gouge Cove Road, Bakersville, went home to be with the Lord Oct. 14, 2018. She was a native of Mitchell County and a daughter of the late Marvin and Inez Phillips Greene. She was a homemaker and a member of Fork Mountain Baptist Church.

Hal Ellis Sparks, 74, died unexpectedly at his home in Loganville, Georgia, Sept.16, 2018. He was born at home in the Ledger community on May 22, 1944, to Hankins and Myrtle Ellis Sparks, who preceded him in death.

Mildred Alvina Huff, 87, of Little Switzerland, passed away Saturday, Oct. 6, 2018, at Mission Hospital in Asheville. A native of Lima, Ohio, she was the daughter of the late John and Mildred Davis White. After living in Florida, Mildred and her husband moved to Little Switzerland.

Harold Bridgebane “H.B.” Copley, of Penland, passed away peacefully at his home Oct. 8, 2018. He was born in 1931 to Flossie Willis and Sherman Copley. Although HB was born in Kentucky and graduated from the University of Kentucky, he lived most of his life in Penland. As a young man, he taught an enameling class at the Penland School of Crafts. He was in the Air Force during the Korean Conflict. He worked for many years in independent sales and as a real estate broker. After retiring, he worked at Walmart.

Gladys Duncan

Gladys Ollis Duncan, 88, formerly of Fairway Lane,

Spruce Pine, died Tuesday, Oct. 2, 2018, at Blue Ridge Regional

Hospital in Spruce Pine.

Born May 24, 1930, in Avery County, she was the daughter

of the late Russell and Ella Weatherman Ollis. In addition

to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband,

Eugene Duncan, who passed away in 1974. She was

also preceded in death by a nephew, Bobby McClellan; and

a sister, Wilma Burleson, and husband, Fred E. Burleson.

Patricia “Pat” Hickman, 87, of the Fork Mountain Community, went home to be with the Lord Monday, Sept. 24, 2018, at Smoky Ridge Health and Rehabilitation. A native of Akron, Ohio, she was a daughter of the late Virgil L.

Herbert McKinney Hickey, 85, of Monticello, Georgia, died Tuesday, Sept. 25, 2018, at Baptist Village in Waycross, Georgia, following an extended illness. 

“Herb” was born and raised in Spruce Pine to the late Scott and Dora Hickey. He moved to Jasper County, Georgia, in 1959.  

Phillip Carpenter, born April 9, 1944, in Spruce Pine, passed away Sunday, Sept. 9, 2018, after a long fight with cancer. Phillip is survived by his wife of 55 years, Carolyn Greene Carpenter; two sons, Michael and Ray; and a daughter-in-law, Ann Cavanaugh. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Robyn Teaster. 

Louise Willet

Louise Stewart Willet, 92, of Black Mountain, peacefully passed Sept. 17, 2018, surrounded by her family. 

Louise was born Aug. 5, 1926, in Mitchell County to the late Fred and Annie Stewart. 

John McClure Vance, 53 of Bent Road, Spruce Pine, went home to be with the Lord Sept. 18, 2018. He was the son of the late Sam and Oakalene Buchanan Vance and a native of Mitchell County.

Claude Maxwell Cabe

Claude Maxwell “Max” Cabe, 90, went home to be with the Lord Sunday, Sept. 16, 2018, at Blue Ridge Regional Hospital. Born Sept. 11, 1928, in Rabun County, Georgia, he was the son of the late Claude W. and Grace Ramey Cabe. 

Helen B. Bartlett

Helen Boone Bartlett, 88, of Possum Trot Road, Bakersville, died Friday, Sept. 14, 2018, at Smokey Ridge Health & Rehab in Burnsville.
