Doug Vance, 59, of Spruce Pine, passed away Monday, Feb. 25, 2019. A native of Mitchell County, he was a son of the late Robert “Bob” Vance and Betty Pate Pafford. He was a 1978 graduate of Harris High School and had a long career as a chef at numerous restaurants throughout the United States. Most recently he was an employee of the NC Department of Public Safety as a Food Service Officer with 14 years of service. Doug enjoyed golfing, boating, fishing and cooking.
