SPRUCE PINE -- Jerone (Jerry) Cameron Larsen, 75, of Spruce Pine, died at home Sept. 9, 2016, after a long battle with Parkinson’s disease. A Celebration of his life will be scheduled in early 2017.

MORGANTON -- Angie Ledford, 45, of Morganton, passed away Sunday, Sept. 11, 2016.  

Born in Burke County Dec. 11, 1970, she was the daughter of Letha Ann Benfield Peeler, of Morganton, and the late Donald Gene Peeler. She was a member of Oak Hill United Methodist Church and enjoyed the outdoors, especially camping and fishing with her family.

In addition to her mother, Angie is survived by her husband, Rod Keith Ledford, of the home; sons, Ben, Joe and Luke Ledford, of the home; and a sister, Donna Peeler.

SPRUCE PINE -- Charles Colaman Geouge, 56, of Dale Road, Spruce Pine, died Friday, Sept. 2, 2016, at the Hospice House of Rutherfordton County in Forest City.
A funeral service honoring the life of Charles Geouge was 3 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 6, 2016, in the Chapel of Webb Funeral Home. Graveside services and interment followed in the Strawbridge Cemetery in Newdale.

BURNSVILLE -- Daniel Edwin “Danny” Peterson, 49, of Burnsville, went home to be with the Lord Monday, Aug. 29, 2016, at Mission Memorial Campus surrounded by his loving family and his special friend, Selena Edwards.  

A native of Mitchell County, he was a son of Irene Tipton Peterson, of Burnsville, and the late Frank Peterson, who passed away in 1992. He was also preceded in death by a brother, Ronald Lynn Peterson.  

GREEN MOUNTAIN -- Ike T. Miller, 92 of Pigeon Roost Road, Green Mountain, went home to be with the Lord Aug. 27, 2016. 

A native of Mitchell County, he was a son of the late John and Nettie Branch Miller. He was retired as a Machine Operator with Henredon Furniture Company and a member of Lower Pigeon Roost Freewill Baptist Church. He was a lifelong lover of gospel music. Ike loved to fish, garden and all outdoor activities. He especially enjoyed his family and friends. 

FORK MOUNTAIN -- Scotty Ray Ollis, 73, of the Fork Mountain community, went home to be with the Lord Tuesday, Aug. 23, 2016, at his home. He was the son of the late George and Gladys Whitson Ollis. 

Scotty was the past president of the Garment Workers Union in Maryland, a charter member of the Bakersville Farmers Market, a member and Sunday School Superintendent of Bethlehem Baptist Church and a volunteer for the Mitchell County Senior Center’s Meals-on-Wheels program for 12 years. 

He was preceded in death by his parents and his son, Eric Ollis.

SPRUCE PINE -- Mary Louise Wyatt, 74, of Pitt Road, Spruce Pine, passed away Thursday, Aug. 18, 2016, at her residence surrounded by her family.

Born Oct. 23, 1941, in Mitchell County, she was the daughter of the late Fred Anderson and Nellie Mae Pitman Sparks. In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her brothers, Joe, Frank, Ted and Eugene Sparks.

Eric Willis, 57, died Thursday, Aug. 25, 2016, at his home.

A funeral service was 3 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 28, 2016, at the Chapel of Webb Funeral Home. 

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations be made to Hospice and Palliative Care of the Blue Ridge, 236 Hospital Drive, Spruce Pine, NC  28777.

GREEN MOUNTAIN -- Cassie S. Honeycutt, 91, of Green Mountain, went home to be with Jesus Friday, Aug. 19, 2016, at Brian Center Health and Rehab. 

A native of Mitchell County, she was the daughter of the late Rev. Harrison and Hannah Gardner Street. She was a lifelong member of the Upper Pigeon Roost Freewill Baptist Church.

BAKERSVILLE -- Thelma Whitson Street, 89, of Bakersville, passed away Tuesday, Aug. 16, 2016, at the Trinity Place in Albemarle.  

She was the daughter of the late Clayton and Dollie Peterson Whitson and the wife of the late Loy Street, who passed away in 2003. Thelma was a loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother who loved her flowers, yard and garden. Playing rook with her friends was her favorite past time. She will be remembered for her sense of humor and her love of playing jokes on others. She was a member of the Union Hill Freewill Baptist Church.

ASHEVILLE -- Daisy Jean Cregger Birchfield, affectionately known as Mammo, 82, was called to heaven Saturday, July 30, 2016. She was the daughter of the late Andrew Jackson Cregger and Bessie Corina Dillman Cregger. She was born in peaceful Rich Valley in Smyth County, Virginai, Sept. 10, 1933. She was the youngest of 10 children. 

Throughout the years, she loved needlepoint, reading and making quilts.

SPRUCE PINE -- Jean Johnson Travis, 83, passed away July 28, 2016.

Graveside Funeral Services celebrating her life were noon Tuesday, Aug. 2, 2016, at Silver Chapel Baptist Church Cemetery in Bandana with the Rev. Will Van Wieren officiating. The family visited with friends from 10 a.m. Tuesday until time for the service at the church.

SPRUCE PINE -- Elma Riddle, 90, passed from this life on the afternoon of Wednesday, July 20, 2016, with her daughter by her side.

Little Miss Elma Jane Hollifield was born to the late Clyde and Lula Cox Hollifield Feb. 20, 1926. At birth, she was premature and not expected to survive.  However, her Heavenly Father protected and nurtured her and granted her 90 years and five months of life on this earth.

In addition to her parents, Elma was predeceased by her husband, Claude Riddle; her sister, Lucy Pittman; and her niece, Joann P. Morgan.

SPRUCE PINE -- Mildred Tolley Slagle, 78, of Spruce Pine, passed away peacefully Thursday, July 28, 2016, at her home surrounded by family.

Mildred was the daughter of the late John and Ida Chapman Tolley and the wife of the late Jack Slagle, who passed away in October 2015.  

NEWLAND -- Lambert Phillip Hoilman, 70, of Newland, died Wednesday, July 27, 2016. A funeral service was 4 p.m. Friday, July 29, 2016.
