Chili Cook-Off a success
SPRUCE PINE – Food, games, live music and beer highlighted the Cross Street Commerce Center’s first Chili Cook-Off Saturday, Sept. 8, in Spruce Pine.
The free event was a benefit for the Healthy Hygiene Project – donations of products and cash were accepted at the door.
“We’re just trying to do something for the community and give the community something to do,” said David Whitson, owner of the Cross Street Commerce Center. “This place has been a blessing to us, and I’m glad to see so many people here taking advantage of it and enjoying themselves.”
The Mitchell High School girls’ soccer team judged the chili. Gift cards were given to first-place winner Josh Boone, second-place winner Lori McIntyre and third-place winner Tessa Taylor.
Live music was provided by the Brooks Hubbard Band, and Whitson’s beer keg trailer and some cornhole boards were placed in the courtyard.
