Virginia ‘Jenny’ Cook
SPRUCE PINE – Virginia “Jenny” Cook, 75, of Biggerstaff Road, Spruce Pine, died Saturday, Feb. 24, 2018, at Blue Ridge Regional Hospital in Spruce Pine.
Born June 26, 1942, in McDowell County, she was the daughter of the late Paul William and Frankie Holder Huskins. In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her husband, John Cook, who passed away in 2010.
Jenny was a member of the Mt. Carmel Baptist Church. She enjoyed reading her Bible and western books. She also enjoyed working crossword puzzles, flat board dancing, her dogs and socializing with her friends.
Left to cherish her memories are her brother, Roger Wayne and Susan Huskins, of Penland; her nephew, Dillon Huskins, of Penland; her niece, Koren H. Gillespie and husband, Travis, of Boone; her great-niece, Emery Gillespie; and her special friends, Louise and Keith Renfro, Kay Freeman and Ann Haney.
A funeral service celebrating the life of Jenny Cook was 2 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 28, 2018, at the Mt. Carmel Baptist Church with the Rev. Toby Crowder officiating. A time to support the family, share memories and receive friends was 1-2 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 28, 2018, at the church. Interment followed in the Mt. Carmel Baptist Church Cemetery.
Flowers will be accepted and appreciated or memorial donations may be made to American Diabetes Association.

SPRUCE PINE – Joe Hoilman, 80, of Pine Branch Road, Spruce Pine, went home to be with the Lord Tuesday, Feb. 27, 2018, at Care Partners Solace Center surrounded by his loving family. A native of Yancey County, he was a son of the late Dewey and Nettie Robinson Hoilman. After many years of driving a truck and working in the office at Blevins Oil Company, Joe found what he loved to do: driving a Mitchell County Transportation van, where he entertained his many new friends.
He was a 58-year active member of Pine Branch Baptist Church where he formerly served as a deacon, assistant treasurer, audio/video technician and church van driver. He also enjoyed fishing and will always be remembered as a people person.
Surviving are his loving wife of 58 years, Shirley Buchanan Hoilman; sister, Faye Hoilman Robinson, of Double Island; nieces and nephews, Glenda Robinson Wilson (Roby), of Busick, Regina Robinson Woody (Steve), of Double Island, David Robinson (Denise), of Double Island, Daniel Robinson (Angie), of Marion, Dawn Dellinger Hughes, of Spruce Pine, and Daryl Dellinger (Debra), of Auburn Hills, Michigan. Several other extended family members and his church family also survive.
Funeral services were 6 p.m. Friday, March 2, 2018, in Pine Branch Baptist Church. Pastor Bobby Greene, the Rev. Steve Williams and the Rev. Charles Murrell officiated. The family received friends from 4-6 p.m. prior to the services at the church. Graveside services were 11 a.m. Saturday, March 3, 2018, in the Pine Branch Baptist Church Cemetery. Pallbearers were David Robinson, Daniel Robinson, Daryl Dellinger, Tyler Dellinger, Sam Cook and Russell Burleson. Honorary Pallbearers were Dean Pitman, Randle Buchanan, Luke Robinson, Dempsey Sullins, Charles Pendley, Eddie Buchanan and Jim Buchanan.
