Charles D. Hoffecker Jr.
Nov. 17, 1926 — Dec. 20, 2017
Charles D. Hoffecker Jr., of Concord, passed away Dec. 20, 2017. He was born Nov. 17, 1926, in Norfolk, Virginia, and was the son of the late Charles D. Hoffecker and Mary Simmonds Hoffecker. He graduated from Porter Military Academy, Charleston, South Carolina, in 1944 and the Citadel in 1951 after serving in the Merchant Marine Academy and the U.S. Army.
He worked for Texaco and First Federal Savings and Loan in Tampa, Florida, and as a aoning administrator in Charleston before retiring in 1986. He married Roberta Clayton, of Dorchester, South Carolina, on Aug. 18, 1948, at Bethel Methodist Church in Charleston. After retiring, he and Roberta spent 30 summers at their summer home in Little Switzerland. They were active members of Park Circle Presbyterian Church in North Charleston and later became members of First Presbyterian Church in Spruce Pine.
Charles was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Elinor Steward.
He is survived by his wife, Roberta; his son, Charles D. Hoffecker III (Stephanie), of Concord; his grandchildren, Dr. Brett Hoffecker (Felishia), of Scott City, Kansas, Christina Hoffecker, of Hanahan, South Carolina, Melanie Morton, of Charlotte, Brittany Turner (Wes), of Charlotte, and Daniel Morton, of Charlotte; and great-grandchildren, Timothy and Jude.
A graveside service will be at a later date at Riverview Cemetery in Charleston.

Christopher Dean Hoilman
Christopher Dean Hoilman, 44, of Gouge Cove Road, Bakersville, went home to be with the Lord Thursday, Dec. 28, 2017. He was a native of Mitchell County and a carpenter. He was a graduate of Mitchell High School and a former member of Bakersville Fire Department.
He was also a member of Fork Mountain Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife, Melissa Gouge Hoilman, of the home; his father and mother, Dean and Sherry Hoilman, of Bakersville; one daughter, Alexis Diane Hoilman, of the home; one son, Christopher Isaac Hoilman, of the home; two sisters, Kim Buchanan (Shane), of Bakersville, and Shana Cook (Ryan), also of Bakersville; father and mother-in-law, Gene and Diane Gouge, of Bakersville; sister-in-law, Amanda Honeycutt (Trent), of Green Mountain; three nieces; two nephews; and one great-niece.
Funeral services were 3 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 31, 2017, in the chapel of Henline-Hughes Funeral Home with John McKinney and Trent Honeycutt officiating. The family received friends two hours prior to the service. Interment followed the service at Gouge Cemetery on Gouge Cove Road.

Jean Duncan Hollifield
May 10, 1940 — Jan. 4, 2018
Jean Duncan Hollifield, 77, of Bear Creek Road, Bakersville, died Thursday, Jan. 4, 2018, at Brian Center Health and Rehab in Spruce Pine.
Born May 10, 1940, in Mitchell County, she was the daughter of the late Fred and Lucy Smith Duncan. In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her husband, Charles Hollifield, who passed away in 2008. She was also preceded in death by a sister, Pauline Burleson.
Jean was a member of the Bear Creek Baptist Church and was retired from Henredon Furniture with 25 years of service. She will be remembered for love of the being at the beach and in the sun. She enjoyed riding motorcycles, spending time with her family and traveling.
Left to cherish her memories are her daughters, Marquetia Garland, and husband, Jerry, of Spruce Pine, and Anita Braswell, and fiancé, Roger Buchanan, of Bakersville; her grandchildren, Becky Loftis, and husband, Sam, Jared Garland, and wife, Suzanne, Priscilla Mellon, and husband, Nate, Michelle Franklin, and husband, Chris, Nick Watson, and fiancé, McKenzie Ledford; her great-grandchildren, Harlie Franklin, Hudson Franklin, Hendrix Franklin and Erik Mellon; special friend, Donald Shuford; her sister, Norene McKinney, of Spruce Pine; and several nieces and nephews.
A funeral service honoring the life of Jean Hollifield was 3 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 7, 2018, at Bear Creek Baptist Church with the Revs. Bruce Cannon and William Ellis officiating. A time to support the family, share memories and receive friends was 2 p.m. until time of service at the church. Interment followed in the Bear Creek Baptist Church Cemetery.
Flowers will be accepted and appreciated or donations may be made to the Bear Creek Baptist Church Building Fund.

Aug. 5, 1942 — Jan. 2, 2018
Reece Miller, 75, of Greensboro, passed away Tuesday, Jan. 2, 2018, at his home.
Born Aug. 5, 1942, in Mitchell County, he was the son of the late Hobert and Anna Mae Miller.
Reece was a member of South Elm Street Baptist Church. He was a truck driver for many years and a retired Teamster. He loved to garden and enjoyed NASCAR. Reece was a loving and devoted husband, father, brother, uncle, friend and most affectionately known as “Papaw.” He was loved by many and will be missed by all who knew him. In addition to his parents, Reece was preceded in death by a brother, H.D. Miller; and sister-in-law, Carrie Miller.
Those left to cherish his memory include his adoring wife of 52 years, Kay Andrews Miller, of the home; sons, Reece Allan Miller (Liz Craine), of Penhook, Virginia, Brent Miller (Crystal), of Asheville, and Eric Miller (Jaimie), of Whitsett; brothers, Ray Miller (Linda), of Asheville, and Harry Royce (Nancy), of Green Mountain; grandchildren, Olivia Grace Miller, Alayna Kay Miller, Carsen Monroe Miller and Chase Landen Miller; and numerous nieces, nephews and other extended family.
A memorial service celebrating his life was noon Saturday, Jan. 6, 2018, at South Elm Street Baptist Church in Greensboro with the Rev. Lawrence Clapp officiating. The family received friends from 10:30 a.m.-noon at the church prior to the memorial service.

Kenneth Alan Williams
Kenneth Alan Williams, 76, of the Beans Creek Community, passed away Monday, Dec. 25, 2017, at his home. A native of District Heights, Maryland, he was the son of the late Howard and Constance Hammond Williams. Ken retired from Bell South where he was a central office manager.
Survivors include his wife, Kathy D. Williams, of the home; two sons, Steve Williams, and wife, Linda, of Ft. Lauderdale, Florida, and Kenneth Williams Jr., of Ft. Worth, Texas; brother, Greg Williams, of Massachusetts; granddaughter, Krista Williams; and sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Mary and Floyd Diedolf, of Bakersville.
A celebration of life service may be scheduled later.
