LETTER TO THE EDITOR: An ounce of prevention, please

To the editor: As a retired physician, I would like to share some thoughts on the benefits of preventing versus treating COVID-19 infections. We have heard much talk about preventing the disease and treating people after they get sick. “An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure” is so true.

Georgia Ann Woody Burleson Johnson went to her Heavenly home Saturday, April 18, 2020. She was born Aug. 27, 1925, in Avery County, and was the daughter of the Rev. Albert and Bessie Woody. She grew up in the mountains of North Carolina and West Virginia during the depression.

Edna Allen, 76, of Lenoir, went home to be with the Lord Thursday, April 9, 2020, at Caldwell Hospice and Palliative Care in Hudson. It is especially hard since no one could go to be with her due to the virus and staying in place during her hospitalization.
