Young appointed vice chair of BOE
LEDGER – The Mitchell County Board of Education at a continuation of its regular July meeting this past week unanimously approved the appointment of Brandon Pitman to the board, unanimously approved board member Kathy Young as the new vice chair and approved several personnel moves.
Pitman will replace Sherry Bell, who resigned from her position on the board this past June.
“We’ve all given this serious thought and prayer,” said Angela Burleson, board chair.
Pitman will occupy Bell’s seat until after the November election. He will be sworn in at the regular August meeting.
Bell’s resignation also left open the position of vice chair. Board member Sam Blevins nominated Young for the position, and the board unanimously approved the motion.
The board approved two certified position hires – Michele Turner as an English teacher at Mitchell High and Jennifer Parker as an EC teacher at Bowman Middle.
The board also approved the addition of Christy Young as a teacher assistant at Greenlee, Michael Runion as a substitute bus driver, Jeannine Gunter as a substitute child nutrition worker and Alex McKinney and Susan Wasserman as volunteers.
The board’s next regular meeting is 5:30 p.m. Monday, Aug. 13.
