Voter turnout nearly 57 percent in county
BAKERSVILLE – Mitchell County saw more than half of its registered voters make their voices heard during this past week’s General Election.
In the county, 6,323 of 11,106 registered voters cast ballots, which equates to a 56.93 percent turnout.
The 2018 turnout is down from the 2016 general election when 8,165 ballots (71.9 percent) were cast. In the 2014 general election, Mitchell County voters cast 5,312 ballots (45.6 percent).
More people voted early in this election than voted overall in the 2018 May Primary that saw 2,352 total ballots cast.
