Tools from 17th, 18th centuries on display at Pine Crossings
SPRUCE PINE – A collection of tools from the 17th and 18th centuries accumulated over 40 years is currently on display at Pine Crossings Gallery.
Tools belonging to coopers, shipwrights and woodworkers from the collection of Bill and Kate Carroll nearly fill a room in the gallery.
“We have already sold a bunch,” said Linda Vesely, owner of Pine Crossings at 14842 Highway 226 in Spruce Pine. “We still have a lot left and people have just loved them.”
Vesely assembled a reputable team to research, identify and price the tools. Assisting in the display was blacksmith Mike Hensley, Dr. Mike Messino and Pine Crossings shop assistant Vance Warner. Also on display at Pine Crossings is a maple woodworking bench from 1810 imported from Sweden.
The Carrolls moved to the Little Switzerland area from Hollywood, California, after retiring 15 years ago. Bill is known for his work on popular television shows Magnum, P.I., Police Woman, Kojack and Frasier. Kate worked on hits such as Northern Exposure and Knotts Landing.
