Scarecrow contest under way in downtown Spruce Pine
SPRUCE PINE – Downtown Spruce Pine is a little spooky this fall with the Spruce Pine Main Street scarecrow competition under way.
Eleven businesses are participating in the fundraiser for SPMS, the second year of the competition. Downtown businesses have designed scarecrows and placed them near their storefronts or windows.
People can vote for the scariest scarecrow by placing a quarter in the jar next to the scarecrow.
Come Halloween, the scarecrow with the most quarters wins. The money raised goes to Spruce Pine Main Street.
SPMS Director Libby Phillips said it’s a great way to encourage people to come and enjoy downtown Spruce Pine.
The 11 businesses participating this year are Spruce Pine Florist, Tree House Mountain Reality, Absolutely Fabulous, Majestic Music, Mitchell News-Journal, Habitat for Humanity, Uptown Funk, Toe River Arts Council, Market on Oak, Touch of Class and Spruce Pine Main Street.
