Run For Holland achieves record-breaking numbers

SPRUCE PINE – This sixth annual Run for Holland took place Saturday, May 18, in Spruce Pine and generated record-breaking numbers.

The race began in 2014 to raise awareness and funds for those with mental or physical disabilities and nearly $50,000 has been donated to such causes since the race began. This year’s race garnered nearly $17,000 in business sponsorships, more than $7,000 from individual donations, nearly $8,000 from race entry fees and another $400 from merchandise sales creating an available grants budget for 2019 of $25,500.

This year’s race had 285 runners, walkers and track commanders, 96 Spirit Runners and more than 40 volunteers.

“We are incredibly passionate for the special needs community and this cause is so near and dear to our hearts,” said Adam Burleson, who co-founded Run for Holland with his wife, Brooke. “The atmosphere (on race day) was electric and we hope that you created some lasting memories that brings you back year after year.”
