Quartz Corp. spruces up Brian Center
SPRUCE PINE – Residents of the Brian Center looked on in excitement this past Friday as the management team from The Quartz Corp. spruced up the assisted living facility’s landscaping.
The team bought the material and supplied the labor to makeover the courtyard with new mulch, plants, flowers and furniture.
“They called us,” said Heather Steuer, a nurse at the Brian Center. “We are so excited because it not only needed updating, but it makes our residents excited and when they get excited, we get excited.”
The Quartz Corp. Human Resource Manager Scott Reece said the company has designated a day this coming August as, “A day to go serve.” The community outreach at the Brain Center is a precursor to that.
“We reached out to them and when we realized fixing up the landscaping here really couldn’t wait until August we decided to go ahead and take care of it,” Reece said. “We have had several current and former employees come through rehab here so it was really our pleasure to do this.”
The materials cost around $1,500 and The Quartz Corp partnered with Peoples Furniture to purchase new benches and chairs for the courtyard.
“We got the furniture at cost,” Reece said. “We purchased the landscaping materials from Harding’s and Lakeview and Danny Staton Trucking delivered the mulch for free. It is truly a partnership among area businesses that got this done.”
Steuer said the effort was beneficial for everyone at the Brian Center.
“It’s not just for the residents here,” she said. “It’s good for our team as well. It’s always good to change the atmosphere if even for a day.”
