Pitman sworn-in to BOE seat
LEDGER – The Mitchell County Board of Education Monday, Aug. 13, acknowledged the oath of new board member Brandon Pitman.
Pitman was appointed to the position vacated by Sherry Bell, who resigned over the summer.
Board attorney John Henning administered the oath to Pitman. Pitman was joined by his wife, Stephanie, and his son, Gabriel.
“We hope this is your first meeting of many,” said Angela Burleson, board of education chair.
Pitman has filed to run for an elected seat on the board and is on the ballot for the November election along with current board members Kathy Young and Burleson.
Chris Pitman, of Webb Funeral Home, and retired music teacher Tim Drum also filed to run, making it five people vying for three seats. Board member Gary Moore is not seeking re-election.
Retired teacher Brenda Sparks and businessman John Wilson have filed to seek the seat vacated by Bell’s resignation.
