Miller’s Eagle Scout Project approved
SPRUCE PINE – It took about 60 minutes for nearly 130 hours of work to pay off for Paul Miller.
Miller, 16, of Spruce Pine, is a sophomore at Mitchell High School and a member of Boy Scout Troop 505. He was before the Eagle Scout Board of Review Wednesday, March 21, to explain why his Spruce Pine Beautification Project was worthy of the rank, and the board agreed.
“You are now an Eagle Scout,” Jim McIlwain, Toe River District Advancement Chairman told Miller. “It is obvious you have invested a lot of time in this project and you have shown the ability to manage people, manage finances, manage time and raise money.”
Miller began the process of becoming an Eagle Scout this past December, which included landscaping and refurbishing the area around the “Welcome to Spruce Pine” sign and the blue spruce tree in front of Tri-County Oil on Highland Avenue.
“I was nervous,” Miller said after the interview. “But I think I did OK.”
Spruce Pine Town Council member and fellow Eagle Scout James Acuff was the other member of the Board of Review.
Miller will soon participate in an advancement ceremony acknowledging his Eagle Scout status.
