Mike Brown Ford-Subaru permanently closing
SPRUCE PINE – Car dealership Mike Brown Ford-Subaru is closing effective immediately.
Owner Mike Brown issued a statement Monday about the decision.
“After great consideration, we have regretfully made the decision to close Mike Brown Ford-Subaru in Spruce Pine,” he said. “We have made many friends and have had many wonderful employees since April 2014; we will miss seeing and interacting with them and the community. From April 2014 until today, we have not only focused on being a business in the area but to be a business involved with the community … focused on making a difference. We have provided scholarships to students attending Appalachian State University, provided additional scholarships to students in our local area, helped raise more than $23,000 in Manna Food Bank contributions while also providing Manna with a pre-owned vehicle to help them service our local market, provided four ‘Teachers of the Year’ with a vehicle to drive for four consecutive years, helped our local and ‘world class’ Mitchell County Animal Rescue, supported local scouting, our local ‘Shop with a Cop’ events and the list goes on. We will miss all of this activity and interaction.”
At the root of our decision is the continued steady decline in the business environment and uncertainty regarding his health, Brown said.
Following a health issue in early 2015, there continue to be more questions than answers as to a long-term solution,” he said. “My focus going forward has to be on my health and family.”
The dealership began winding down operations and will permanently close Monday, April 9, while finishing its customer commitments. Brown will retain a closing team to ensure a smooth and quick closing.
“We wish all of our team the best and wish the best for our community,” Brown said.
